Why would they be moving into N6 though? And where does this "speculation" suggest that the 1/6/10/etc (and, if affected, the shows in the other "shoebox" studio - Newsnight, Newsround, etc) will go?

And aren't they all (N24 & World included) meant to be going to Broadcasting House soonish anyway?

Not soon-ish at all.
The final news people will leave in 2012. The first won't leave until about 2010.

Well they'll sure have to change the background.

And quite a lot more if they want to be able to continue to do what they currently do on the News 24 set without camera operators.

Yep and also N6 is not currently a practical set to do mutiple things. Eg: sport, business, film24 ect.

They also used the 2003 bed for the headlines.

Yes, I noticed that. I wonder why? A funny mistake to make if so.

Not really, it's probably something as simple as someone forgetting to update them in N6's gallery.

Music was all good when BBC World was in there a few weeks ago for an hour or three.

It might well have been. All it takes if for the files on the computer (or the minidiscs) to be labelled 'News 24' to have the old audio on

Yawn. World and N24 are getting major tweaks to their respective sets next year. I don't know what exacly are the changes, but I have heard, not confirmed that they will get a N6 style desk with baking tray and some added video screens.

I'd consider that soon-ish. That means that in just over 2 years time some services will be moving...

I would seem pointless to put a baking tray in N8 surely because it is a static permanent set (and too small for it to be seen properly). In N6 it's a simple way of altering the studio from Breakfast to National News layout, and in TC7 they are a border for the different coloured carpets for each programme amongst other things.

Well that's what I heard around 6 months ago. It probably was in it's early planning stages, so I guess it changes.

The biggest reasons for the "baking trays" (or rostra - plural of rostrum - as they are known) is to get the presenters high enough. All of the four current BBC Network News studios in London use Radamec remote controlled cameras, and the mechanics used to add this feature to a standard ped raise the camera by quite a lot vertically. If you keep your presenters on floor mounted chairs, it can be difficult to get the camera low enough for decent standard shots, especially with shorter presenters. You end up shooting presenters from above, which can be quite unflattering and odd - when ideally you want to be pretty close to eye-level.

(This was a major problem with the beige and red sets)

Most news studios using remote cameras - ITV News, BBC News etc. - have the desks mounted on rostra to counter this problem, as well as giving a more "designed" look to the studio.

Studios that use entirely manual cameras with no remotes can do away with rostra - though many retain them for design reasons, as they can define studio areas nicely.

Of course rostra do cause challenges when accommodating presenters or guests who are wheelchair users, but as long as sets are designed and staffing considered to allow ramping to be used, it isn't a major problem.

A baking tray may in N8 would also help continuity. The News24 set still has the metal bars from the previous era which is more obvious to the casual viewer than the small graphic differences that get slated on this forum.

I suspect the staffing of News 24 makes a set without a rostrum more accessible to wheelchair users. The main BBC One studios have more support staff when they are in use, the News 24 and BBC World studios are designed to run with far fewer staff at some times. (Overnight there is nobody other than the presenter in the studio area.)

Well imagine N6 without a baking tray. It'd be quite bare. It's quite surprising how much the baking tray does to the set. I don't know anymore than what I told you. This is a bit random, but I think hat would be cool is if in the newsroom, they replaced the red and white bits with LED panels spread out, and they would have the titles or something animating on them I guess that would work out better on World.
