I wonder who actually watches programmes called My Penis and I ?

Yeah, I agree. BBC Three has been a waste of space from the beginning. How many times has Cast Away (a bloody brilliant film) been on now? Two Pints and Little Britain on endless repeat, boring and often disgusting programmes about c*cks, tits and various disorders and bodily issues, rubbish films. It's an embarrassment!

It's a question I've often asked myself. I can't imagine anyone tuning in especially to watch it.

And the BBC does it without adverts. Yippee!

Why say, 'why provide a service which Sky does?'
Surely you could say that for virtually every other service the BBC provides? Somebody else does it too!

I can't believe that axing News 24 has even been thought of! It's a key part of the BBC's requirement to "
inform
,
educate
and entertain". I can honestly say I can't remember the last time I watched BBC Three, but I do remember it was a pile of junk. Of any BBC channel, that should be the one to go. Or how about CBBC? I mean, how many kids are at home during the day watching that? They ought to be in school, so it's probably only a small percentage who are off sick. They should merge CBBC and CBeebies - CBeebies programming in the daytime when the little tots are awake, and CBBC stuff for older kids later in the day/evening. Don't give me the argument that kids need programming all day long. I grew up in the 1980s and early 90s, when the kids programmes were only on during certain times of the day and it never did me any harm.

i think they got on ok during the 70+ years without a 24 hr news channel.
If that's the case, why was it invented? Obviously there was a demand for it...

The trouble is though in a world with the rise of the new media etc in 10 years time the idea of a 'news-channel' will probably be out of date.
I know I read far more news on the web than I watch on tv, and like it or not most people I know do the same. This can only spread in the years to come.
If I'm honest I would rather the BBC save the £40m that they spend on News 24 and put it back into BBC three making it a better service.
It is a sh!thole at the minute, but with funding they could make it into something similar to E4, with some decent content Skins etc (which was quite a good watch)
Just because BBC3 isn't 'your thing' you can not simply push these rumours aside. Even if that is exactly what they are.
make no mistake, the next couple of years will be cirtical for tv. The BBC has to restore trust and get people watching again. Which are people more inclined to watch a revemped BBC3 with better content or an out-of-date News 24. The amount of time it takes me to push 503 on my remote I can already be on the BBc news website skim reading a wider variety of headlines.
I'm not saying I'd be happy or comfortable, but the BBC must do what is best for the majority of its viewership and not be tied to the past. We do not live in the past, we live for the future.
EDIT: I don't think News 24 is in any danger of closing yet, but maybe in a few years time there may be budget cuts.

If anything, a merger of World/N24 would happen before N24 is shut down.
