There is always someone in the News Centre other than the News Presenter who should be on air who would be capable of delivering a bulletin (Ala Nicky).

Would it not be a good idea to have one of the news team in the background trained and ready to go on air in case of a last minute change. I really think leaving Chris Eakin anchoring until 3 in the morning is a bit too much and fair play he handles it pretty well. They should have someone else on standby, just one person mind to cover News 24 or World should there be a problem with the current presenter.
