A pretty half hearted effort.

The titles are an improvement - but should have been left to N24 so it's got the same style, but is slightly different, to the BBC1 bulletins.

Astons and ticker - an improvement, but pretty poor. Right aligning everything looks even more pointless, while the nasty white ticker remains. Perhaps having the ticker black and having some white in the astons would have improved things!

The clock - well, not overly bothered as at some point the 4:3 safe area has to be dropped - but considering where everything else is on screen it seems out of the way.

Couldn't they just drop the "BBC News 24" dog and move the clock there, and then have "BBC NEWS 24" scrolling between the stories on the ticker.

I'm sure there will be some tweaks over coming weeks, but pretty disapointing as far as I'm concerned!

P.S. Still only two screens with News Multiscreen on Freeview!

I don't like it.

But that's because it doesn't fit on my screen poperly no matter what aspect ratio I view it in. In 4:30 I'm missing a few pixels of the ticker text, and almost all of the LIVE thing. In 14:9 the LIVe thing is there but I can only see the last didgit of the clock. And in 16:9 I still can't see the far left of the clock.

The latest update on the Editor's blog says they expect to rectify the safe area problems very soon.

Same with our main TV, though it's not so bad on the portable.

Were there any changes to Breakfast?

If you still can't see the clock on 16:9 then - despite the definite problems with safe areas on the new graphics - the geometry and overscanning on your set needs adjusting.

Why roll this out with these aspect ratio problems, don't they do testing ? Unbelievable.

No, they don't test these things out, because they have no facility for testing other than going live.

This reminds me of the last relaunch - does anyone else remember how to begin with the globe in the TOG rotated in the wrong direction?

I don't believe that. So graphics operators and editors who create the sequences don't have proper monitors with aspect ratio and safe area cages on?

No it doesn't - every other channel looks fine on my set (besides, there's no setting for it).

I *DO* like the Breaking News graphic though.

Not impressed at all. The sizing issues are a joke - I find it hard to believe this has not been sorted properly by now.
I agree with Jonathan H that they must have been aware how this would look before the launch. I await to see what happens when this is 'sorted' though.

Interesting to see how the breaking news graphics have been designed to cover up the astons appearing on the national news.
