Tonight's potential 6 headlines if you ran things:

Flooding continues to rip through Britian...
Margrett Beckett is rumoured to be removed from Foreign Secreterary
We find out why defences were so poor...
Tony Blair steps down and Gordon is PM brief summary
More stories follow..

Doesn't sound right in my opinion.

you like listing things don't you - it helps show you tedious you are.

If you had bothered to READ and engage your brian before posting you'd realise I was saying that it didn't deserve the "breaking news" banner as it was not, it was something well known about that would happen today. They don't use breaking news to preceed stories on christmas day about christmas do they?

It was a story that deserved a high billing as it was very important, it was not however "breaking news"

It was expected news but it was breaking as it just happened. Christmas is a yearly thing - Prime Minister change is not.

I think I might start something controversial though on Christmas - We'll never get news reports from the BBC again about how Christmas started and the story of Jesus because it might offend other religions! Very Happy How I love political correctness. It's all mad.

Going on that basis, all news is breaking news.

Well yes of course. All News stories start off as Breaking News just some have higher importance and/or Impact than others.

It is. News has to break to be considered news - however, not all news is worthy of a breaking-news banner.

However, IMO today's events in Downing Street are worthy of breaking news banners. The death of the Queen Mother had been expected because she was getting steadily more and more frail, but when she died it was considered 'breaking news' all the same. If I remember correctly, when the polls open and close on election day it's called breaking news, even though the event is planned.

The 3pm TOTH was an absolute shambles today, at a t ime when no doubt many viewers were for once actually switching over to N24 for continuing coverage from BBC One. Jon Sopel was attacked by breaking news straps and spinning globes, VTs ran out, Matthew Amrollypolly got half way through his name before his mic was turned up... very professional.

And how poor was the Beeb's coverage of Brown's first speech. At least 4 cameras, not one daring to venture into more than a Mid Shot. And then there was the sound, yes there were helicopters and sirens but that was to be expected, Sky did fine, you could hear our new leader clearly, and in MCU!

Matthew Amrollypolly is truly the sh!ts,

'...heeeeelllllloooooooo iiiiiiiii'mmmmmm maaaaattttthhhhheeeew amroliwala hhheeeeerrrrreeee iiiiin...'

I would have thought with Adam Boulton AND James Landale stuck up his arse he would have been able to talk a bit quicker.

and he is tiny, he looked like a smuf with Superdrugs slap-it-on-thick fake tan interviewing Harriet Harman on Saturday who towered far above him.

Yes, I was surprised how small he looked next to some people he was interviewing. Very Happy

Hardly a good TOTH with a mix of graphics at the start, overruning VTs and unfaded microphones. At least there was a nice long headline bed.

I think that's a little harsh. To me he is a competent journalist and I fail to see how being quite short, or dark-skinned, affects this. We can't all be tall you know.

The only thing that is tiny and thick is you - tiny intellect and thick as two short planks.

Why does it matter how short he is, and have you considered that it may not be fake tan, but due to the fact that he's of Sri Lankan (I think) extraction.
