I saw one of the new countdowns just there now and Alan Johnston is quite prevelant, one of the last images before the TOTH, and he appears in another I just saw on youtube. A nice subtle touch.

You sure it's Alan Johnston and not Alastair Leithead?

I'm not sure about the one on youtube but I'm fairly confident the one I caught on TV was Johnston, although I could be wrong.

And apologies for spelling Hew wrong Embarassed

The poor bloke is called Huw!!

Did anybody capture that on NEWS 24 just then at the TOTH (10AM)?

A static image of the previous logo (the silver 24 with the "BBC NEWS" ribbons around it) with one of the headline beds over it.

No countdown - rather odd, but got a fairly long version of the headline bed!

I hope someone captured it...

I saw that too. It's the bed used at quarter past to remind the top stories - a bit disappointed. Hope they could play TOTH bed like this someday!!

Why are they reporting on the EU summit (which is in Germany) from Brussells, and what is the large hall they're in?

The summit is in Brussells. Aren't they always thesedays?

Germany have presidency of the EU at the moment. I don't know if you were muddling it up with the G8 summit which was in Germany a few weeks ago?

Ah. I thought it was in Germany (no I wasn't confusing it with the GCool probably because the website promoted in the background was europe.de or something, but this is obviously due to the Germany presidency.

The sooner we leave the bureaucratic waste of money the better anyway!

Why is it the graphic designers still don't know where the data goes in or out of a satellite dish?

I'm getting very bored of hearing this comment lately. It's called creative licence. No, the red streams aren't bouncing off the inside of the dish first, but then the last time I checked, news broadcasters didn't transmit signals through the air using large visible red beams of footage screenshots.

I think we just need to accept the symbology of the overall countdown videos in terms of concepts that are being communicated - a global presence, people in the thick of it, the technology behind the news channel, and other heartwarming concepts, rather than dissecting it as a serious scientific representation of global communications.

Ha, now I am equally confused. So, it doesnt mean when the presidency's with Germany the meetings would be held in Germany right?

According to wiki, Brussels (Belgium) is considered to be the de facto capital of the European Union, having a long history of hosting the institutions of the European Union.

It's a queer situation really when you think about it. Especially what you think it started out as and what it is now. Why Turkey want to join it I don't know.

Oh, yeah. That *sting* thing they are using for 'afghanistan' is a bit sh!t. Couldn't they have chosen a font other than arial. I could do better, and that is really saying something.

One thing that i am pleased with though is that these *stings* are quite simple and not all flashy and moving like Sky's.

Apologies if this has been discussed before, I was watching Film24 just now and wondered whether it came from the right or left hand pod in N8. I had a feeling that the area to the left of the blue line here was on a "locked-off" camera with the image superimposed (like on The Daily Politics).

I only say this because I don't remember either of the pods having 2 screens (the is one behind the guy on the right when the shot is from the front), or be large enough for that shot.

Are you trying to say that the circled side is not really there?
