Out of interest, what does everyone think of the Jane Hill and Matthew pairing? I'm starting to dislike it a bit, partly as they never seem to have a laugh of smile like Jon and Louise, Ben and Joanna, Simon and Kate or even Natasha and George.

I feel Matthew and Jane are very 'senior' anchors (by that i mean they take themselves very seriously on News 24) but when partnered with anyone else, or when Jane's doing the national, they seem to work better. Just a thought...

I've had time off these past weeks so have seen them on together....

....Firstly when they sent Jane to Portugal for the Madeleine thing we all found out what a bad journalist she is, that said she looks good in the studio but lacks any kind of charisma!
Mathew is better but again just never has a laugh. I also find Mathew a bit annoying.

Simon and Carrie have a very subtle sense of humour. Great pairing.

I think the best pairing on News 24, for journalistic skills and watchability is Jon and Emily, Ive said this before but they just work so well together! I dont think much of moody Hills and Amreelalalaleewawa.

There's a new countdown sequence - gosh it feels such an exciting intro to the hour at full blast!! (I'm sure the youtube video is different from the one just then)

I saw one of the new countdowns just there now and Alan Johnston is quite prevelant, one of the last images before the TOTH, and he appears in another I just saw on youtube. A nice subtle touch.

I would say from the little I've seen these new countdowns are more regional based, the one I just saw had Alan, Ben Brown and Hue Edwards in the Middle East, another on youtube is focused mainly on London. Also they have a lot more "big name" correspondants than previously, which ticks the marketing suits boxes.

As for why the DOG is over the countdown, well thats common sense. If you'd never seen the countdown before and just tuned in you'd wonder what on earth is going on, particularly if you stumbled across the web stream or dozed off, then that simply tells you, don't panic, you are watching News24.

Hugh? It's Huw. It's Welsh.

I know, that is why I said that if you are going to spell it wrong, at least spell it how most people spell it, Hugh. Rolling Eyes

You sure it's Alan Johnston and not Alastair Leithead?

I'm not sure about the one on youtube but I'm fairly confident the one I caught on TV was Johnston, although I could be wrong.

And apologies for spelling Hew wrong Embarassed
