hello i'm pretty new to this forum... i came to learn about bbc news 24 and other domestic services in a visit to the uk in 2003...

just to ask, is there any way to receive this channel outside the uk officially (via cable/satellite even just in the ROI)?

The suggestion that BBC1 should use a countdown is a worthless idea, as a national channel broadcasting a diverse range of programming, a countdown is a waste of valuable air time , which is best filled with programmes or trailers.

Are you seriously suggesting that a short video sequence which visually embodies one of the world's most prominent and well known news broadcasters, their vaules, thier morales and their attitudes prior to their flag-ship bulletins on the UK's most watched tv station is a complete waste of time?

Get your fact's straight.

I love the bit in bold. They probably spend about 10 secondds giving us continuity, that could easily be replaced a countdown, which could quite easily say just as much.

And Tim's back again! What a star. It must be difficult between shifts: to come down from the adrenaline buzz of the morning slot, only to have to get psyched up for the evening. Is it even worth leaving TVC?

TIM WILCOX: he is good at his job. relaxed behind the desk, delivers the news in a calm, unpatronising way, is capable of a bit of banter when appropriate, and is good either solo or when paired up with any one of his female co-anchors.

BUT WHY IS HE ON SOOOOOOO MUCH??

Twice in one day? lunchtime saturday AND early evening saturday?

Are they making staff cuts??

As Tim is principal relief presenter, he generally has to fill in whenever needed. And given the fact that his only permanent slots are Friday 2230-0100 and Sunday morning, you can't blame the chap for working whenever he can - especially when one considers he's probably freelance as well.

I can just imagine him turning up on overnights on Sky or Good Morning Sports Fans on SSN. Maybe not.

I would like to see a countdown being able to introduce the Nations and Regions...

Yeah if you are in ROI, just point a dish to 28.2E, and you will receive BBC News 24, as its FTA!
