Does anybody else think the streaks of light halfway through the titles look a bit like the Al Jazeera logo? It hit me straight away! The music really is fantastic - David Lowe is a very talented man. Just when you think they can't get any more out of the beeps and boops...Well done to all involved.

Depends on the box. If it is set for display on a 4:3 set, AND it takes notice of AFDs, then the resulting image will indeed be 14:9 letterbox. Some Freeview boxes (not necessarily the cheapo ones) ignore AFDs and will display 16:9 broadcasts as 16:9 deep letterbox in 4:3 mode.
My box is set for 16:9 on a widescreen set and I'm seeing full width and height anamorphic pictures.
As it should. Set the box to feed a 4:3 set, and see whether you get a 14:9 or 16:9 letterboxed image.
I can set mine (4:3, 14:9 and 16:9)

PS: Not sure about the posting saying that News 24 is ARCed to 14:9 on Freeview. I'm watching it in 16:9 from Freeview...

I think it all looks a bit sloppy, personally. The "Live" graphic in particular, half of it gets cut off on my w/s tv. I presume this will get adjusted, though.
Other little niggling points... the ticker would look better with a darker background (maybe having the whole bottom bit dark red). The text of the ticker seems to go too close to the News 24 logo - it's not been spaced very well I don't think. And I don't know what it is, but it all seems a bit cheap. Not quite sure why, it just lacks the slickness of Sky. Probably just personal preference though.
Titles are a massive improvement however.

They could have changed the background of the signing man. It looks out of place with a gap between the image/man and the graphics.

Really nice and slick. Less busy than Sky's but ever so reminiscent of the ITV News Channel - the layout of everything is nearly identical - especially the way the Breaking News Strap returns to the bungalow above the station name!

Its a fade, but the BBC1 animation looks poorer than the last one, so maybe it is a good thing.

How is News 24 coming out of the titles btw? Is it still just a fade to tractor cam or are they having a snazzy animation like BBC1?

Let's hope so. It seems astonishing that they aren't observing pretty standard guidelines for graphics safe areas. In fact, if you watch the link posted above...
You can see that the live bug actually sits directly at the edge of the underscanned picture area. No wonder many of us are getting half of it chopped off with domestic cut off!

It's very SKY News isn't it! The titles are almost a direct rip.
Sorry to say it, but those titles look less like the work of creativity one would expect, and more like the output of one of the many 3D video-editing packages out there. By contrast, the 2003-2007 titles had lots of intricate details which you had to watch in slow motion to see - this is just all very basic. Try watching the TOTH without the music and you'll see exactly what I mean.
That said - they're hardly bad - and as changes go it could have been much worse (and much less radical!) - and I really love the astons, far more legible and economical with space.

You call that basic? I'd like to see you make that in Ulead Cool 3D
