I would think that plenty of people would be watching after 23:00 with Peter Dobbie too for a more fully rounded look at the day's news and tomorrow's papers.

Umm, no. People who want a serious round up watch Newsnight at that time. You certainly don't watch Peter Dobbie for that!

Audience figures for N24/Sky/ITV News are absolutly miniscule at that time of night.

It depends on what people view as serious doesnt it.
Newnight is more analytical it wont instantly give you the news, it will give you the issues and analysis behind it, that much is obvious.
People, whom i prejudge, would be following more than the average joe the issues of todays world, i think, thou i see no evidence, in the case of the BBC some viewers who watch Newsnight may go on to watch Hard Talk.
other viewers who may view differnt issues as serious or who just think the basic news is serious enough will watch (assuming they have missed BBC at Ten, ITV 10.30 News) may watch News channels for their days news before they end their day.
I guess what I am trying to say is that IMO audience needs at that time of day arent as high, but they have the most choice so it differs a bit more.
Thou I suspect that I have not made any sense to anyone!

In that case what I can tell you is that you wait ages to see the Breaking News sting and two come almost at once, like has happend a short time back with Tim Wilcox

Interesting (or perhaps not) to note that News 24 started the midnight hour with an ABC News report on the Shuttle being grounded. What exactly is the relationship between ABC and the BBC? I know that News 24 shows World News Tonight, but is there a cheaper price on using each other's footage? What else is incorporated in the relationship, which I imagine is similar to the Sky/Fox partnership.

Not strictly related to N24 per se, but around 20 minutes into "Absolute Power" tonight on BBC TWO, the 1999 BOTH sting could be heard playing in the background on a TV in the Prentiss-McCabe office.

Odd, considering a mock-up of the new N24 graphics was used in full screen earlier in the episode, and a clean feed of N24 was shown on one of the plasma screens elsewhere.

Just thought I'd mention it.

You can also hear the 2003-on (current) TOTH titles playing in the background earlier on in the programme...

*tsk* who do these people think they are fooling! Laughing

shame there is no footage of TOG freaking out

Try this:

rtsp://stream2.blinkx.com/BBCNews24/20050715/20050715_BBCNews24_News_0930.rm

Should work. Quality isn't great but you can still get the jist of it. Smile

Couple of questions :-
Is that the standard format URL for N24 archives?
How long are the archives kept for?

Is anyone else not getting the archives to work any more, or is it just me?

A strange title sequence was played out at 16:00 today. The globe began to spin from the north pole! Now either the recent 'bomb arrests' took place way up there or sommit went wrong at TOTH. Quite bizzare.

A big mess up into News 24 Sunday on BBC One just now. We had the full end titles for Breakfast (the end shot had finished animating), then a promo for BBC Two Comedy then we had a promo for How To Rule The Country (?). During this promo however we could hear the music of the BBC One Ident Skateboarders for about 15 seconds before returning to the sound for the rest of the promo. After this we cut straight to N24 Sunday (running a little later than the top of the hour) where we heard the opening drum beat of the titles before cutting onto BBC World. Then after about a minute or so of BBC World N24 Sunday came back. Now the N24 tower has appeared on BBC One as well.
I wonder how all of this was caused?
Did the same happen on News 24?

Ohh, A wonderful pairing there. Pitty Moira doesn't take News24 Sunday for herself.
