Out of interest who covered for Peter Dobbie 23.00-01.00 last night considering that he was presenting 19.00-23.00 with Liz Pike?

On a different note, would someone be able to tell me which BBC presenters we have had on location in London over the last few weeks. I have a list of a few which I can remember, but I don't know if I've missed anyone. If my list is correct then Jon Sopel hasn't been out and about, which is unusual given his usual position as N24's chief presenter.

7th July - Chris Eakin (Tavistock Square) and Jane Hill (King's Cross)
8th July - Bill Turnbull (King's Cross) and Chris Eakin (Tavistock Square)
14th July - Chris Eakin (Trafalgar Square)
21st July - ???
22nd July - ???

Any help would be appreciated in adding to the list.
Thanks.

slightly odd split screen going on on N24 at the moment for the shuttle launch with a half transparent section.

i still think NASA launch coverage is possibly the most tedious thing ever invented but never mind, it's better than Matthew Ambrosia's excruciating questions.

"Doctor Cleverperson, can you explain, in the lead up to this launch, a launch which is the rebirth of nasa's space program, can you explain the... oh sorry we missed the rocket actually take off"

Watching News 24 today with the space shuttle launch (and watching BBC World on holiday [before going to bed. I didn't spend my holiday watching BBC World to make it clear!]), i'm getting quite annoyed with the big graphics. It got in the way quite a lot and usually had to be decreased to the smaller version which in my opinion looks much better and neater. Is it just me or what?

Also, what happened to this graphic and music...?

Who decides what is a promotion and what is a demotion? Has Jane Hill been promoted to the evenings, and Amroliwala demoted to afternoons? Presumably the highest audiences are in the evenings?

They still use it occasionally but there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to when and why. I always liked it because it has the same effect as the "swoosh" on Sky - if you have the news channel on in the background, and you hear the Breaking News noice then it causes you to sit up and take notice.

It's also a shame that the Breaking News sting only tends to be used when the presenters are in vision, if a story breaks during a report for example, the breaking news strap just creeps onto the screen with no fanfare. It's not as if the accompanying boom is loud and long enough to mean that a part of the report won't be heard.

I think use of the Breaking News sting depends on who is operating the graphics and how quick they are

I think the hot shifts are the 16:00 - 19:00 (Jon Sopel & Louise Minchin) and 19:00 -23.00 (Chris Eakin & Jane Hill). They are obviously the times when most people would be watching, and they are by far the channel's best presenters. I would think that plenty of people would be watching after 23:00 with Peter Dobbie too for a more fully rounded look at the day's news and tomorrow's papers. He is well suited to that slot- he works well on his own, is engaging with all the emphasis in the right places, and brings his own touch to the news, including the trademark grin at the top and bottom of the hour!

Umm, no. People who want a serious round up watch Newsnight at that time. You certainly don't watch Peter Dobbie for that!

Audience figures for N24/Sky/ITV News are absolutly miniscule at that time of night.
