What the hell is going on with the N24 Tower this morning?! The globe is spinning at about 5 rotations per second - it's practically a blur!

Edit: TOG apparently taken offline around 0932, with no Tower onscreen, and no other graphics being shown. TOG doesn't seem to be particularly reliable; the failures are frequent, and given the number of graphical errors that pop up every day, I'd be surprised if all of these could be attributed simply to human error, and I suspect that a lot of it is down to the usability and/or reliability of the TOG system.

You mean the globe in the TOG was moving fast, how can this be possible?

I do agree with you about the TOG, I only very recently saw a bulletin on World with no TOG at all, the backup astons were the two line astons but nothing else, I guess on News 24 they don't have the backup astons in place?

I wish I knew, but if there's any archived footage of fully-graphed-up N24, check it out around 0930 today. The Tower seemed to animate in differently, like a very quick wipe in rather than the usual layered rotation. The globe then appeared to be moving so fast that it almost looked like it was moving backwards, with a sporadic flickering effect. For the two minutes that this was happening, the time was displayed correctly, and no other elements of the Tower appeared disfunctional or otherwise abnormal.

Bizarre.

It's quite simple. The Tog computer freaked out and had to be rebooted.

LOL, this all sounds very freaky, shame there is no footage of TOG freaking out, well I guess all this technology is new, so these problems are bound to happen, having said this, this sounds very freaky indeed.

Try this:

rtsp://stream2.blinkx.com/BBCNews24/20050715/20050715_BBCNews24_News_0930.rm

Should work. Quality isn't great but you can still get the jist of it. Smile

Couple of questions :-
Is that the standard format URL for N24 archives?
How long are the archives kept for?

The answer to both of those questions = I'm not sure. Someone posted a link similar to that one last February which had an 88-second countdown at the end. Then someone just changed the dates and time and apparently you can go back as far as Oct or Nov 2003. That's all I know about it really.

I see the point about the globe and the tower - it was out of control (similar to when the globe on the TOTH was speeded up).
As for the link, the feed comes on after a few days (IIRC) for pretty much all half-hours. All you have to do is change the date and time then you can view a different feed.
