someone do me a favour...switch on to News 24 just now and tell me who that female newsreader is, coupled with Tim Willcox? I've never seen hear before which is strange because I know all the faces of News 24. Is she new?

I thought I heard Tim call her Carol?!

If he said Carol then it could most likely be Carol Walker, Political Correspondent. She's presented quite a few times before on N24 as a relief presenter.

Yes, it is Carole Walker

Don't like her as a presenter. She should stick to standing outside the Palace of Westminster.

I watched an old tape i've got of News 24 back in 1997 the other day. It really hit me how much the channel has changed since launch, it really has come on loads particularly in the last 2-3 years or so. Its hard to believe the channel will be 8 years old this year. Has digital tv really been around that long already (yes i know News 24 wasnt on digital till 1998)

Good to see Alastair Yates during daylight hours, presenting the Sunday 10:00-15:00 shift.

Yes it was great to see Alastair Yates on daytime 24 - With his vast experience and welcoming on-screen manner, he's an excellent presenter - I think he should be used a lot more during the day - he was definitely suited to this particular shift and looked to be very much in his element. Hopefully this will become a regular thing!

Alastair Yates is by far the best presenter on BBC News... period... and I agree with you... he seemed to be in his element interacting with real people instead of just recordings like he is used to on the overnights.

I was pleasantly surprised too to see Big Al standing in for Tim... Sunday was a really high profile presenter day on N24, with Sissons doing News 24 Sunday, then Big Al, then Phil Hayton... then had to be ruined by Gosling at the end. Should have left Tim on his own i think...

I think Alastair would be extremely well suited for one of the NATIONAL bulletins - the 10 perhaps??

I TOTALLY TOTALLY agree! Al is now on in the background as i write this. he is a presenting genius. BUT, alas, the powers that be probably think he is too "old". so they put boring characters with no personality (or false personality) on... e.g. Alagiah, Edwards... They occasionally get it right when they let Turnbull fill in...

Is there an Alastair Yates fan club? lol Laughing

Yes, there is. I am the president of three fan clubs actually:

The Alastair Yates Fan Club
The Big Moira Stuart Diva and Fabness Fan Club
The Adrian Finighan Fan Club
The Lyse Doucet Fan Club
The Nisha Pillai Fan Club

It is also worth noting that arithmetic has never been my strong point!!!!

On the serious side, I know what you mean about Alastair being suited to the Ten. However, IMO, he will see that as a demotion to be honest. He is far more suited to Worldwide rolling news coverage.

So how do they get Frank onto the set? Is there a removable ramp, do they lift him onto it or does the edge of the set have a ramp?

Incidentally, it was Anna Jones' last day at News 24 on Wednesday - Philip Hayton mentioned it briefly at the end of their bulletin.
