Tsk tsk, Jon & Louise on the lash on N24 this afternoon. Drinking bubbly at 5.55pm!

Heaven forbid - the presenters might actually become interesting.

I think this criticism that presenters are not interesting is pretty invalid really. Surely different people find different other people interesting.

I find the excuses for human beings that are on Big Brother completely uninteresting, but millions of people are fascinated by their every belch. On the other hand I find the people they have on Question Time interesting and I would have thought your average BB viewer would be yawning all the way through.

There's no "average" Big Brother viewer - as such there is no "average" viewer. But you're right in what you say.

But I think the REAL question is - what does the "average" Big Brother viewer think of Jon Sopel. Laughing

Well I can't stand Big Brother (though I haven't watched a second of this series) and I think Jon Sopel is one of the best news presenters there is, so they probably can't stand him!

I noticed this morning that News 24 seems to be using the location maps again for live reports/interviews, although they've lost all their colour and are just black and grey with white text. Looks a bit drab IMO.

This has actually been going on for a while now.

The use of the location map above the Tower during lives was brought in as a regular feature around the same time as the multi-coloured ticker mastheads were introduced. It was also at this time that they introduced the grey and orange maps (similar to those used on the Election 2005 coverage), both for the Tower location graphic, and for almost all other full-screen and split-screen maps.

Good to see Alastair Yates during daylight hours, presenting the Sunday 10:00-15:00 shift.

He was with us on World last night too, preceded by Kirsty Lang. Wonder who we'll get on World tonight then, if Yates is daytime on N24?? Could be Lindsay Brancher, I wonder....

Surely more likely Karin Giannone?

I think we can sum up what they think in one word:

"Who?"

all new Phil
I think we can extend that sentiment to most people, not just the viewers of Big Brother.

Come on, how can anyone call the News 24 presenters interesting? They have obviously been told by channel bosses to liven up and make banter with the and sport weather presenters, and to make light hearted comments - problem is that when you are told to do this, it seems contrived and false.

Yes it was great to see Alastair Yates on daytime 24 - With his vast experience and welcoming on-screen manner, he's an excellent presenter - I think he should be used a lot more during the day - he was definitely suited to this particular shift and looked to be very much in his element. Hopefully this will become a regular thing!

I agree - he is an excellent presenter who brings some authority to the news - in a pleasant way! However I think it was just a one-off, Tim Willcox was doing the 19.00 - 00.00 over the weekend covering for Chris Lowe, hence the reason he wasn't on his usual Sunday slot.

Bear in mind, one of the reasons that Mr. Yates is normally doing the overnight shift, is because he is simulcasting on BBC World, and he is a known face in BBC World land, whereas some of the other N24 anchors are not!! He has been a BBC World anchor for the last ten years almost (apart from the one year spent at DW Tv in Berlin).

For example, in certain parts of Asia and the Pacific Rim, Alastair will be seen on screen presenting their primetime or lunchtime news bulletins given the time difference.

In the UK, I guess you guys consider him to be shoved away into the overnight slot because he is not a top presenter. However, BBC World viewers are very familiar with Mr. Yates.

Where I live, my "Breakfast News" at 0600hrs and 0700hrs is presented (usually) by Alastair (sometimes it's Deborah Mackenzie or Clarence Mitchell or Jake Lynch or Martine Croxall or Karin Giannone). Then at 0800hrs, just before I leave for the office, it is TWT!!

I agree though that Alastair is an excellent presenter and his style is truly credible. However, if you guys poach him to daytime N24 as is suggested above, we will miss him here in BBC World Land. Haha.

Cheers,
James

Can't say I was terribly impressed when I tuned in to N24/WORLD around 1am and saw the super displaying the legend "COMIT IMPACT". At least that's one redundancy taken care of.
