Yes, Harshy, as someone who has also lived there, and where N24 is not available anyway, I have to agree.

BBC World is definately the best news channel in these parts of the world for an unbiased and mainly professionally presented digest of news.

When I am in the UK, I also prefer BBC News (News 24 that is - the Networked stuff output on BBC1 terrestrial tv is close to ghastly).

Again, I stress that this is only my opinion. No offence intended to others who have different preferences.

Cheers,
James

Whilst I was in a hotel in Kuwait, I went down to reception and there was seats around the main screen, and everyone was watching BBC World, so much so that the DOG had burnt into the screen!

BBC World is also incredibly popular in India as well with some fantastic programmes broadcast at 10pm IST, I was fortunate for a few weeks to watch these programmes, there are very good indeed.

It seems that the N24 Tower has crashed. It's now 05:41, but the Tower reads 05:33 and the globe inside it has stopped spinning. So much for a more stable system...!

Update
The frozen Tower disappeared off screen at 05:47; at 05:50, the old-style Tower took over.

As I was walking through Liverpool city centre today, I noticed the BBC's big screen was showing BBC News 24. I've never seen it being shown on there (usually it is BBC1), but it looked great nevertheless.

I've not yet seen anyone mention that there's a new N24 promo featuring 'strings' of screens - in the same sort of style as NewsWatch - flying around and occasionally pausing on a "Breaking News" story from recent days. Ends with a pull back through a "web" of the screen-strings before flying through the globe and pulling out to reveal the full '24' fan and globe, with a slightly different "if it's happening, it's happening here on BBC NEWS 24" voiceover.

Fantastic cock-up last night! As soon as I turned on to N24, they were speaking to Susannah Price in Washington and then the line from Washington went dead!

Regarding the new graphics package, I'm loving the new ticker, much better than the horrible orange and text which u could hardly read!
The globe in my opinion, is very odd with that high speed. Would be better if they start it from where the top story is coming from (perhaps they are working on the different spins at the moment!)

Just seen that, looks good. Glad they've replaced the old one with the orange 24 at the end. Just hope they've also got rid of the 'I'm here and I know everyone' trails which would have been better if they'd featured more than 4 correspondants!

Oh no I much prefered the orange ribbons. It suited the colour scheme better for a start and also the animation does not work with the solid silver ribbons. It works for the BBC1 news as it's uncurling into the number but News 24's has several ribbons that join up and the orange ones had darker bits on the overlap, looked much fabber.

The touchscreen illustrator, not seen for many many months (last time i saw it was during the China red and ivory look, hooked up to the central screen in the second set), is back with a vengeance in the Fact File. Nick Higham has been struggling slightly with it with arrows pointing absolutely bloody everywhere.

Incidentally, I've finally seen the Tower live up to its name. I've wondered, since the new look arrived just over a year ago, why the Tower never seemed to be a 'tower' of very much, despite the box at the bottom (with the ticker add-on) and the LIVE/location area at the top. I have long waited for it to be used as a proper 'tower' of information.

A couple of minutes ago, it was used to show a full length map of Britain - stretching from the top of the N24 box up to the top of the screen - while a similar enlarged map in the main area to the right zoomed into the Stevenage area as part of the coverage of firefighters' deaths earlier today. Looked rather good. Previously, a smaller static map has certainly present in the general area above the Tower, but not directly attached to it in the same way. I hope to see it being used like that again, and I can imagine it being put to even better use in conjunction with the N24 box and LIVE/location bug.

Like the zoom in map they're using now too. It zooms right from space to street level.

How in the name of Hell is that a 'cock up'?

A line dropped off. It happens all the time, to every radio station, to every tv channel, etc etc etc etc.

Are you that desperate to spread gossip on this board?
