Two good bits last night on handovers to the weather.
First Jon Sopel said (with raised eyebrows), "Right, fasten your seatbelts, time again for us to have a fly round the UK, with the weather!"
Then when Jane & Eakin were handing over to Dan Corbett he was on the screen and was doing his hair when they cut to him. There followed much hilarity with him commenting he usually keeps his wig on a pole just off shot and we caught him getting it right.
He then went on, completely unfazed to give an excellent forecast, even crossing over to show the left hand side. Totally at ease with the new graphics!

Yes, that Dan Corbett handover was a legendary one last night, one of the funniest things I've seen in ages!

Yes, I saw that Dan Corbett moment...legendary. For those who didn't see the forecast half an hour earlier, Dan was doing the 'Amorillio walk' on the screen in the studio as they finished talking about the British soldiers filming that spoof video. John Hammond had a go at it earlier on but it wasn't anywhere near as good! The main man is due back on our screens tonight!
They had an interesting feature about our tea drinking habits, which basically consisted of Chris Eakin making a cup of 'inproper' herbal tea from a china tea set on a tray on the desk, whilst Karin did all the interviewing work. He got a lot of stick for drinking all the tea himself and not offering it round.
(By the way, has anyone noticed that Karin always refers to "this is BBC News" as opposed to BBC News 24. She must be still used to doing the generic overnight bulletins.)
The graphics on today's Fact File have been pretty entertaining - lots of flying 3D Star Wars things, including an R2D2 trundling out along the studio floor.
(Bit of a shame the rest of the day's news has been so dull)
That Fact File with the Star Wars stuff is on the AV console on the Beeb's site under Entertainment > A look back at the Star Wars franchise
I love how Nick disappears at about 1 minute as the explosion happens... and yet his laptop stays. It's not very convincing as you watch it again, but the first time round it's quite impressive.
Corbet's been on full form this morning, making the weather truly funny.
We've had the infamous "This Chappie" routine and this morning even managed to become a celebrity look-a-like.
He certainly was on fine form this morning, plenty of live forecasts too. He even managed to get the word "sexy" in.
A topic aside, I'm sure I'm not imagining this... but I'm sure that the backdrop in the newsroom behind the desk is slowly changing from predominantly red in colour to more and more white. When we see the 2 shot of the presenters, 90% of the backdrop is white, all the red colouring seems to be around the edges and in a strap at the bottom. I'm sure this has been gradually changing over the last couple of weeks. The overnight feed has come from the World studio a few times recently so it could have been happening then.
If anyone has some caps to prove I'm not going mad I'd appreciate it!
Did anyone watch Sportsday yesterday? It now has a new look, proper opening titles and is double-headed. Yesterday it was presented by Sue Thearle and Adnan Nawaz. It comes from the stand-up area where they put in a small round News24-style desk behind which the two presenters sit. Was quite good IMO.
