Here in BBC World land it is Lyse Doucet who normally goes out on the road to cover big events, but we didn't have any BBC World anchors in Rome thus far.

I assume the funeral will be a shared affair with N24 too.

I was abroad at the weekend and Brian Hanrahan was presenting BBC World from Rome.

He was presenting on News24 on the Saturday evening. I did question whether he was the most suitable for the role, but overall managed to pull it together.

His level of experience is undoubted but he has not had as much opportunitiies to present as some of his colleagues. I also thought he did well - his sombre tone was extremely fitting for the news content

Appears to be a problem with the ticker. Went to the pre-software update ticket, seen from the News 24 re-launch to getting rid of it completely.

Going back to n24's use of presenters on location for what they consider to be major news stories, i have compiled a list which is by no means complete. It definitely shows Jon Sopel to be the main presenter but also lists Peter Dobbie, Simon McCoy and Chris Eakin as important anchors. All additions are welcome:

War in Iraq - Jon Sopel & Peter Dobbie, Kuwait City (March-April 2003)
Madrid train bombings - Jon Sopel, Madrid (March 2004)
Expansion of the EU - Jon Sopel, Dublin (May 2004)
Factory explosion - Simon McCoy & Chris Eakin??, Glasgow (May 2004)
US Election - Jon Sopel, Washington (October-November 2004)
Asian Tsunami - Jon Sopel & Peter Dobbie, Galle (January 2005)
Charles/Camilla engagement announced - Simon McCoy & Jane Hill (Feb 2005)
Ellen MacArthur returns - Chris Eakin, Falmouth (February 2005)
Pope's illness and death - Jon Sopel, Rome (March & April 2005)

I have listed only News 24 presenters (not BBC World) and can remember Sopel presenting in Stockholm and Brussels but can't remember when. Also I cannot remember who presented from Normandy on D-Day 60th anniversary apart from Huw Edwards.

D-Day was done by Philip Hayton.

Fantastic coverage of the MG Rover story tonight on N24. Not sure what they're doing on Sky News but Jane Hill & Chris Eakin are working as a great team and Jeff Randall has added to what is an incredible story. Govt saying one thing, Jeff saying another!

I've just seen News 24 using an Aston labeled 'News Update' when reading a statement issued by Shanghai Automotives regarding the Rover situation.

This is the first time I've seen them using such an aston - have they used it before?

Does anyone actually use that red button business thing. I can't get it on freeview, but I guess might have been quite useful for updates on the rover story last night? Is it any good?

i use interactive quite a lot for news and it can be really useful for getting an overview/ analysis (rather than just reading text) BBC have a business TV one too which I guess would be handy for stuff like the Rover story.

Yes extraordinary story- Randell to the BBC rescue- Sky had the "Breaking News"- Rover in Administration aston up for hours last night.....even after Randell had received categorical confirmation that it wasn't true.

Who's to know that quoting a government minister could be wrong though?
