so the BBC will remove TOG and move on to a much more robust Vizrt system already used by other broadcasters, is that right?

It's hard to believe BBC News 24 will be 10 years old this November 9th! The channel has come on such a long way since it's launch. Hard to believe its even in the same building since 1998 given the different number of sets & tweaks its had since then. The flags seem like such a distant memory.

A month is probably a little bit drawn out but ok.

That's a bit of a worrying headline.

I wonder where it has got to.

Maybe the IRA have kidnapped it.

I do hope the apparent refresh in the next fortnight makes way for more in the way of text (I would prefer smaller astons but I doubt this will happen).

I think they're unlikely to drop the zooming in and out aston-head as this is a fairly unique feature of the revitalised News 24, but without the tower occupying so much of the screen, there should be the potential for more detail in story descriptions.

Dear God! Which journalist wrote that strap? I know they mean "The Northern Ireland missing" in relation to those people whose bodies have not been found during the troubles, but they should have phrased it better than "N IRELAND MISSING"! "MISSING N. IRISH" would have been better.

Yet the flags still remain, etched into the glass surrounding the newsroom.

That's right - during the 1999-2003 era, they were behind the wall of the second set and since 2003, they're behind the sport set, so you never get to see them. IIRC, they were just visible on the BBC1 News during the 1999-2003 era when they used the real newsroom backdrop.

They were visible indeed although that image was artworked a bit so only the bottom part of the image was truely live (albeit delayed). If i remember correctly (and hopefully Noggin will correct me if im wrong) they slightly altered the top half of the image so that the BBC News 24 flags banner which was attached to the very top of the News Centre did not appear on the image feed taken for the National News. Also the top half was colourwashed so you didn't get the coloured lights used to light up the frosted flags glass, they just appeared white.
