I think 'appalling' is a bit strong.

I appreciate having someone with his experience presenting the news.

I suspect with the Saddam story reaching it's conclusion Hanrahan and other Senior reporters will be called in over this weekend.

It will help explain the situation and obvious global reaction if they have experienced people at hand to lead the debate of the issues, rather than simply presenting the story 'flat'.
