hmm... can't think of any BBC Sport graphic system which has been playing out continuously for the past three years... so don't think that's a like for like comparison.

Yes but the sheer number of times News 24's graphics break down is preposterous. You never see Sky break down like this and their system is in use a similar amount of time.

I think I'd rather have that than jazzy/flexible and unreliable.

I'd disagree with that. Sky's graphics seem much more flexible, especially when it comes to apparently simple things like fitting in long names. How often have we seen text disappearing under the tower on N24?

There also seem to be more chances for Sky to adjust the format of their supers depending on what they're doing at the time, such as with their head-to-head debate segments. News 24 just seems to be stuck with the same three-line, right-aligned format.

Plus, there's the ludicrous situation that the tower can't simply be faded in and out if they need to remove it - it has to fully animate off and then back on again.

Whilst I generally like the look of N24's graphics (although it looked better at the last relaunch before they fannied about with it), the whole system has always struck me as rather clunky and inflexible.

I agree with Spencer on this. For one thing Sky can do pretty much whatever they want with their graphics (even the time they decided to plaster an advert for their website on screen all day long) whereas News 24 are restricted by what the system can do.

I guess there may be a case for the News24 system being easier to operate though.

I suspect that the penalty for Sky's system being flexible is that it has more options and thus requires more knowledge to operate?

I like how it has to animate on. Fades are dull in comparison.

And if I remember correctly, it can be faded off if nessecary. There's a choice made to animate on and off the screen.

Is that why News 24 Tonight started 10 minutes late?! What a joke.

it has been faded off screen many times

When TOG freezes or astons or ticker become stuck on screen, there is a fade over-ride that dissolves everything off screen at once.

The tower can be faded on screen by itself but it is programmed to animate on and off as default.

I also like N24's graphics, they are neat and tidy and I like the animations. The only flaws seem to be:
- Occasional freezing over
- The 'Headlines' strap seemingly animating on screen by itself too soon at the BOTH, and appearing blank on screen
- The over-use of the ticker. It often appears before the tower, occasionally during the headlines sequence, and often comes on for the 30-odd seconds at the handover from the '10' to the '10' News Hour before they go to the weather. This is mainly due to the operator of the system not thinking on their feet.

Apart from small minor issues, the system looks good and works well for me. It would be nice to see the 'Breaking News' sting used more, same comments apply to the breaking news red ticker masthead.
