Yes you are right tv is 50Hz but the refresh is done on alternate lines during each scan so the true picture refresh rate is 25Hz.

The new countdown will grow on me, but I agree, it makes the rest of the opening sequence look very slow!

Interesting that I've seen two different versions already. Don't know how many of them there are - perhaps it's a different one each hour? Smile

There are eight.
4 daytime and 4 nighttime.
The nighttime ones will be used from 10pm each night.

Easily some of the best pres to come out of the BBC for ages. I've only seen two so far and both are brilliant. Totally agree with the others though, it is time to adapt the headlines and titles to fit in.

After downloading the 4MB capture previously in this thread, I think that it might be a good idea for the current headline bed to sound like how the new countdown sounds before it hits 0.30. It'd blend in perfectly.

A very nice adaptation; they've used the red radio pulses very effectively with the tiny pictures overlaid, without going too OTT. And the music is excellent.

Here's the version used at 11 am for anyone who's not seen it (~4 MiB).

I cant wait to here the full mix on david lowes

The full mix is very nice.

I really like this new countdown. Its a fantastic mix from what i've seen, far better than the previous UK bound c/down. I was really surprised when News24 relaunched that the c/down was essentially a rehash of Nations/Regions titles, but anyway we now have a far better one. Particulary like the shot with Rupert Winfeild Hayes in Hong Kong ( I think anway)
Great that News 24 is taking a more international approach. Bring on the other four versions.....

Of course! I am clearly not awake! PAL is 25 fps.

Maybe it would look better if they made it look like it was 100ths of a second!

Ok - Taste issue - which could be a criticism -

If you look at the New York frame at 18 seconds in the RM file posted you see the swoosh (for want of a better name for it) heading towards the Empire State building. Is that a little bit insensitive bearing in mind Sept 11th 2001?

Everyones entitles to their opinions but I really do think your reading too much into this. Its a countdown which features hundreds of locations.
It has a shot of New York, but is that a shot of September 11th? No is a shot a city. I really don't know what to say to alter your opinion but I really don't think the BBC devised and shot this with malese.

Its just a 'bird's eye view' shot of New York isnt it, with Empire State Building there to make it obvious.

I agree with the last couple of posters, it is too easy to get caught up in being too careful and fussy.

The new countdowns do look very nice, the light beams are well done, nice mix of timelapse and real time, together with a good refresh of the music, some top work presentation wise.

Couldn't agree more!

The countdown has never really made any sense since the red and orange numbers were dropped in early 2002.

Today is the first time in a good few years (since the flags), that I've been looking at my watch to catch the TOTH. Wink

Don't tell any girls I said that though! hehehe
