Can someone get a cap of WBR on n24 anyway? lol

It's just the same but with 'BBC News 24' replacing 'BBC World' on the tower.

I find it hard to believe News 24 don't have access to a clean feed of World. You can see the World tower animating on and off behind 24's and you can very occasionally see News 24's animating off, World's animating off AND a simple BBC News tower behind it all.

I may have this completely wrong, but here goes. Before the 2003 relaunch, the BBC World channel logo was added by BBC World Presentation (i.e. the output suite which looked after the overall output of the channel). At that point in time, News 24 was able to get a clean feed of BBC World from the news gallery in N9 with just the relevant news graphics. Now, from the 2003 relaunch onwards, the news gallery in N9 adds the tower which means it is burnt onto the output of that gallery, hence why N24 can't get a clean feed. If you ever see BBC World, you'll notice that during pre-recorded programmes there is yet another logo - just the text from the tower (i.e. without the red background) in the same position. I don't know exactly who adds this now as BBC World Pres is no more (is it BBC Broadcast?) but I know it isn't the news gallery.

BBC News 24, on the other hand, is completely different. They have one gallery which controls everything.

As I said, that's only my reasoning. It's been a couple of years since I visited BBC World's studios so things may well have changed since then.

What you say is correct but not the reason News24 can't get a tower free version of BBC World. The reason is that the Tower is produced by the same machine which controls the Astons and the Ticker. previously these were done by different machines.

So News24 can get a Tower free version of World, it just won't have any Astons on.

Speaking of World Buisness Report, they somehow managed to finish last night's edition at 12.51. It seemed to cut off half-way through a report on Russian foreign policy and then bizarrely jumped to the 'I'm XX in XX, goodbye'

What did they show up to 1am? Surely they couldn't show trailers for 8 minutes (if they showed the full countdown)?

There was a 30 second countdown but I believe the weather ran slightly longer than it usually does on News 24, I seem to remember it ending around 12.55 and then some 90 second trailers being aired, including the extended BBC Four Autumn one, which is simply beautifully put together.

I did find it highly odd but it all seemed to be taken in their stride, weather being prepared etc.

Yeah, I can remember a business report being out of sync and us seeing aaron on the WBR set while the reporter kept on talking.

News 24's ticker was frozen for a few minutes before, then after a while they decided to take it off!

Is News 24 automated at night? I ask because I was watching the weather last night before 2am and at the end of the promos, it froze on a endcap for about 30 seconds (for the duration of the countdown). At 2am, it cut straight away to BBC World.

No News 24 is not automated at night - there is a director all night.

Nicky, what happens when the overnight bulletins come from BBC World? Is there someone manning the N24 gallery as well?

No N24 moves into BBC World - the World gallery becomes News 24 for the period with World Pres (operated by Red Bee) opting in and out just like they would normally.

Yes in the old system, Big Ted used to do the astons on screen, titles were played from server, and the DOG added by presentation, therefore BBC News 24 had access to the astons generated by World, now since TOG has arrived, TOG overlays over the default feed, the titles, astons and tower, however astons done by Big Ted can also be seen on the dwfault feed too, this is used to display the graphics over the backgrounds, the 'LIVE' aston and the Location strap(yes they do this on TOG too, but look closely and you can tell!)

So basically on the clean feed, BBC News 24 receives, they get the 'LIVE' aston, location strap and the text overlayed on graphics, but not the TOG stuff, hence the reason why on BBC News 24, you can see the outline of BBC World's tower animating! Wink

I don't know what's going on on N24 tonight (from World newsroom), but the dog and ticker have just permanently stayed on screen since about 2am, through all trailers, titles, weather etc.

But another thing is that underneath these, another set of graphics underneath which can be seen animating round (dog + black bit).

Before this started happening, this World ticker was being used (smaller writing on black bit), but now it's the N24 one, so had somebody in the N24 gallery turned this on?

I think it is, because when the 4.30 sting finished, a tower could be seen animating on (this would be the N24 one because World are not in at this point, would it not?), so I presume that the people/person(?) in the World gallery are doing things normally, and producing the N24 graphics for N24, but these permanent ones are staying on all the time.

And at one point the tower animated off, revealing another N24 tower Confused

Does that make sense?

EDIT: And at 4.56, they're finally off! lol

Well I flicked on to BBC World earlier and also noticed that they were using the BBC World ticker, then a few minutes later it froze then continued to tick.. at bottom of the hour it was the news 24 ticker.
