The new countdown will grow on me, but I agree, it makes the rest of the opening sequence look very slow!

Interesting that I've seen two different versions already. Don't know how many of them there are - perhaps it's a different one each hour? Smile

On Dateline yesterday, Nik Gowing alluded to the fact that they are moving studio as of next weekend. Where is this going to be? Will it be the same studio as used for Three News/Newswatch/Webscape (Click Online)/Flight Track (Fast Track)??

Any ideas anyone?

but it's only moving to News 24's studio.

Yes, the headlines/titles do look slow in comparison - shame they weren't given a refresh as well, although they've not been around long.

I love the new countdown though - I've always wondered how they might refresh the music for the 2007/8 move to Broadcasting House and this is a good indication of what direction the theme could go in. The strings were great.

Well its really good. The reworking of the music is brilliant. At least the countdown reflects what the channel is about. Hard htting news and fast. Its good for me.

It appeared to me at 1200 that the fractional part of the countdown was a frame count rather than 1/100th's of a second

- Can anyone confirm or direct me to the nearest optician please?

I think the new countdown is fantastic. It gives BBC News 24 authority and is something completely different for the BBC's news channel. However, I do agree giving the opening titles & graphics at the top of the hour a refresh would make it all blend in well. Perhaps even making the graphics quicker would be better.
Does anyone think that this could be an indication of an upcoming new look for News 24, even though the current ones aren't that old?

Also, did anyone notice how the weatherman called Rob suddenly started coughly violently during his weather report just before noon and then at the top of the hour at 12pm, Phil Hayton started coughing too. Is there a bug going round the BBC Newsreaders? Will George & Sophie be coughing at 6 as well? Who knows.

A very nice adaptation; they've used the red radio pulses very effectively with the tiny pictures overlaid, without going too OTT. And the music is excellent.

Here's the version used at 11 am for anyone who's not seen it (~4 MiB).

Having watched it over and over, even slowed down, it's definitely a "25" countdown in the 1/100ths of a second part of the timer.

Why 25? Is standard TV not 50Hz frame rate? Or am I thinking of something else.

Why have they not just used 100ths of a second? Seems daft. Generally its cool though.

There are 25 frames in a second. How do you propose displaying 100ths of a second? There would need to be four per frame.
