You may or may not have noticed, another subtle change to the countdown sequence...
On one of the countdowns, (the one that features Barnaby Philips just after the 30' whip pan mark, with the rapid in-tempo cut of the images from China that fits in with the beat of the countdown track), there are some new images of Jon Sopel on location at London Heathrow at around the 20'-15' mark, replacing (I think) the Jeremy Cooke in NYC part.
That one has always been my favourite countdown of the 4, I'll have to watch it again to see if I still like it!
Maxine is back this afternoon doing her first Sunday afternoon for over 2 months - at last, Tim can go home on time on a Sunday!

She is covering for Kate while she's on Breakfast though, although they shouldn't make Tim do the shifts Maxine is leaving.
So I had an idea: Karin! She's one of News 24's best, along with Al Yates and they are both stuck on the overnight shift (and I do know it's primetime on world ladada..) but they both really deserve better. Karin spent a few weeks doing Chris Eakin's shift during the summer, and she was fantastic. I watched her last night, and realised she's better than the BBC management realise.
Carrie has also been doing Kate's shifts, but the bonus has been the appearance of Gavin Esler on the '5' recently and regular appearances from Ben Geoeghan or Tim on Saturday mornings.
I agree Karin is certainly a rising star, the Saturday overnight is her one and only scheduled shift of the week. Last night she was making a few errors with reading etc though: she could do with being on more regularly. She is excellent, has great talent.
Currently working at the BBC as a sports reporter with News 24, Matthew is covering a range of sports from football to horse-racing and from rugby to the Winter Olympics. As yet no rowing!
