Gotta admit, it does look good from that angle. Shame about the plastic desk though, I really hate it. It looks cheap. They need one with a screen on the front, and that spins round on demand. Hey, well they copy everything else off Sky News, they might as well copy the desk too!
It might be me, but do the N24 cameras look in need of a white balance? After watching sky for most of today, upon switching to News 24 it all looks very dark, whites are off white, and there seems to be an odd "phasing" going on...
If you look at the last two, taken only seconds apart, there is a visible difference in the white of the studio, and its not my capture card but the output doing this? Whats up with the cameras? They all seems a bit "off"
Also I note (and this may be old) but the use of "Business" and "Papers" on Swiss and with a glow on the plasmas now...
Yeah its really obvious if you compare the white stripe of light at the top of the set. Perhaps you can have a strolling text there for breaking news?
Those wide shots do look excellent - actually makes the place look bigger than a shoe box for a change!
As for the desk, I actually like it. I don't think plastic looks cheap - better than wood which looks old fashioned. I hate the Sky News desk with it's silly screen. Whats the point of it? No, the News 24 desk fits in perfectly with what is an excellent set, I just wish the whole thing wasn't squeezed into such a small unsuitable space.
Did anyone catch World Business Report last night? I noticed that the main graphics (the black part) was very transparent. I can't speak for News 24 at the moment, but there was certainly a slight difference.
And I don't care if this should be in the duck discussion page.
Above, below the newsroom view there is opaque glass. In the new wides above, the glass above is clearer, and the bottom part is clear glass now. It look better now IMO
Just better quality caps, although there have been some tweaks over time....
On another note, it would be good to re-introduce the presenter stints in the newsroom behind the set; it was a great feature at one time during Jon & Louise's slot, and was a good insight into the day's events with the reporters in the newsroom at the time. It is facilitated much more now, and is a lot more practical, as there is usually half an hour's downtime during the 1 o'clock news especially, so it would be much easier to set the camera and have it organised ready for after the BOTH.
In particular, the handovers to and from the newsroom were great to watch, and it was not only a real insight into 'the engine room' as Jon always called it, but also a good feature on-air. It would be nice to see it happen regularly.
A slightly unusual TOTH at 0100: a 57 second countdown, straight into the title sequence, then the headlines without a bed, and at 0101, into the first story. The tower took another minute to turn up, and the ticker a little after that.
It's still N8, though, and seemingly a News 24 bulletin, not N24/World.

World just took the first minute as they then had a 55 minute programme
