This is a story purely about the government wanting to keep the element of fear in the mass population. I will bet that none of the arrested suspects today will be charged.

This is just a government ploy, and the BBC is playing up to it as it always does.

Just like 7th of July last year was "just a government ploy". Yep. Alright.

This is just a government ploy, and the BBC is playing up to it as it always does. There is no reason whatsoever for News 24 to be broadcasting on BBC1 right now seeing as over 20million homes already have digital and those that don't either have Ceefax or BBC Online at their disposal should they wish to be subjected to pro-government stance propaganda from the BBC.

Pathetic.

Yes, the dropping of Thunderbirds from the schedule is appalling. Rolling Eyes

The intelligence agencies knew about this a few days ago. It's only today that they've decided to make arrests. If there was such a danger to life, then surely the airports and airlines would have been notified as soon as possible?

The threat of terrorism has been around for decades. The IRA murdered over 3,500 people over 30 years, but there was never this amount of press coverage or fear-inducing 'Threat Warnings' on television and online.

As long as we're all kept in a perpetual state of fear, the governments can pass legislation which allows them more powers to spy on us than ever before.

Seriously, just give it a rest. You're getting very boring very fast...

Why don't you go and spout your 'theories' on Digital Spy and not forums dedicated to the News coverage of today's events?

I suppose you thought the security service's stance that there could well be a terrorist attack on the tube were wrong as well... Rolling Eyes

Ah, Ahh, Ahhhhhhhh.

That's my impression of a chimp. Seemingly the same nosies were made during last night's debarkal of a Midnight News with Miss London herself, Martine Croxall.

To describe it as a catalogue of errors would be to somewhat understate the incident. For those who were treated to the dodgy camera work, the graphics breakdown, the picture breakdown, the random breaking news astons, the open mics, the shuffling and loud movements of Ben Ando, Missing VT and the '24 Globe' appearing at random, well, could it have been any worse?

I really did start to wonder if merely one person was controlling the bulletin. Martine completely failed to understand that simply repeating the downgrading of the 'terror threat alert' six times does not consitute new breaking news. It went something along the lines of "we start this hour with breaking news" admitadly it refered to the news of a mobile phone ringing on-board a BA flight but the picture then degrading to pixelated form (with apology from MC) and then graphics breakdown, was really how things were to go on. Martine tried to bring in an eyewitness but the line was dead, cut to a very weird graphic on the Middle East and the entire narration came from this which then put the reports back to back, minus a few seconds of dead air.

I think, if any, the highlight of the night was Martine's intro for Ben Ando who'd been drafted in to explain the terror threat level.
"So, Ben with the downgrading from Critical to Severe, what's happened?"

Why is this woman broadcasting?

Well, I have never rated her or had a high opinion of the woman...I find her dull, talks in the same tone and clearly can not handle breaking news/technical glitches which every newsreader should be able to do: I think the BBC's Plan B springs to mind: CLONE JANE!!

I really do like Jenny Scott , but not as a news reader on 24 - i think Chris Eakin is trying his best to help her tonight , but I don't think she really has it to be a presenter on 24. I know many of the regular presenters are prob on holiday , but why can't they use people who are here more - like Sophie Raworth and Jane Hill.

Chris Eakin must be miffed a bit , he was shunted out of the way for Ben Brown and when he is away they shunt him back - in my opinion Ben is brill as awar reporter, but comes no where near Chris as an anchor.

Yeah, Ben Brown isn't as good as Chris Eakin when it comes to newsreading. It's surprising really, because Ben Brown has been a relief weekend presenter for BBC World for quite a few years now. I remember the first time I saw him on World was during the china red and cream era - probably in 2000/2001. So he has had prior experience behind the news desk.

I don't visit this place that much anymore - it's still a great place but my interest in TV pres has waned over the years. It would be disappointing if Sacha was banned for his/her views. I suspect though that he/she was probably banned for being off-topic though.

Like it or not, many people think like Sacha. Why would this be the case? The Government is, like it or not, full of liars with a proven history of manipulating truths or half-truths for their own political end. Iraq war anyone?

Plus, the BBC have a proven history of not questioning the evidence until after the fact. That is why many feel their coverage has been severely lacking.

After all, did you know that some of the arrested suspects didn't even have passports? None of them had airplane tickets. Makes it kind of hard to blow up 5-10 planes at once.

No, can you just PM him so this thread isn't made as boring as the BBC World thread.
