I think that version only usually gets seen on clips on t'internet.
It disappeared during the weather and reappeared at some point during HardTalk.
The astons beforehand weren't quite as animatey as usual - a BigTED backup, perhaps?
Apparently there are some problems with ENPS this evening; so the two things may be related.

The BBC News tower is usually used to hide the clock and News 24 dog on the standard tower and is available permanently keyed over on a separate output.
I believe the Biged + Aston is still there (I think it normally just does top left location astons) as a backup for TOG - so that would explain it.

How bizarre! No opening titles, just cutting straight to the studio, and the graphics haven't changed.
