I've noticed where Kate Silverton has gone this week - Royal Ascot. I wonder if her choice of clothing will be criticised again with the event been one of the heights of British fashion?

Probably.

That really is shocking!

Sorry, this is already on the Breakfast thread but in case it's passed you by, there are more caps of the hat festival (apologies for involuntary pun) here, here, and here!

(I rather liked Kate Silverton's wildfowl arrangement. Gulp!)

I don't understand why they've given Sissons the 5pm news slot today. It's probably the first time he's appeared News 24 during the week, as at least they've realised that he simply has to do a single headed bulletin. But he still bumbles through it and just looks so much less professional than any of the other presenters on the station.

Admittedly he did have to follow a tough act (the Five Live reunion of Worriker and Micheon (sp?)), but can't they get in another "big name" to fill in for Huw on Fridays.

I'd love to see Paxman have a go at the slot- there is an increased analysis based element to the Five O'clock news which I think would suit his style.

Carrie Gracie normally does the Friday 'Five' as well as 8.30-11. I'm surprised that Maxine (filling in for her this morning) didn't front it. She would have been much better!

Joanna Gosling has also done the Five recently, along with Louise Minchin, Jon Sopel, Ben Brown et al.

That was nice just there. The sting faded out into a wide shot of the studio whilst continuing to play (sorry if this makes no sense). Has it been done before?

Yes, it's been done a few times before. Sting kicks in then dissolves to the aerial view, while it continues to play on the projection screens to the side of the desk.

Depends on who's driving the gallery - there have also been some nice camera moves recently.

Well, BBC World used to do that in the 'reverse' order during the closing of the bulletins. The animation's on the plasma, a overhead shot then fades to the continuing rest of the animation of the closing sting.

Yes I remember seeing that on News 24 about a year or more ago. The sting dissolved into a nice moving aerial shot from the opposite side of the set that we usually see. Its a pity they dont vary the aerial shots - they always seem to come from the camera-left side of the studio. Its a nice treat to see an aerial moving shot from the camera-right side of the set.
