Karin Giannone, and an incredibly talented reader/journo at that. A bit wasted on the shifts at the moment.

I agree with you there, James. I watched her for about 30 minutes earlier this evening, and was very impressed with her. She'd make a good relief presenter for any of the daytime females on News 24 - not overnight!

Actually the overnight shift is very important - those are the bulletins that are seen on PBS across the States and they want excellent presenters. Remember the likes of Jane Hill and Joanna Gosling all started on overnights and actually had a big fan base in America because of it. Overnights actually gets a bigger audience than any of the daytime News 24 shifts because of the World audience as well - so she is certainly not wasted on overnights.

I think Alastair Yates should have a co-presenter through the night. He must get very lonely all on his own!

Talking about overnight shifts - Jake Lynch has become much better IMO. Does anyone else think so?

I watched him a couple of nights ago and noticed that he now says "Welcome to the programme" with so much enphasis that it sounds so fake... No, I still don't like him very much.

Anyway, I like the lonely version of Alastair Yates, I can't figure him out with a co-presenter.

Nah - he's rubbish.
Didn't he used to be a Sky reporter ?

Clarence Mitchell comes a second close to Jake Lynch as most unwatchable presenter. He was on last night. Why do they have to drag out the rubbish for the overnights.

I'm surprised that Clarence Mitchell isn't very good anymore. He had a long stint presenting the overnight news between 1999 and 2001 with Rageh Omaar. I always thought both of them were good. I didn't see Clarence last night, so I don't know whether he's now worse than he used to be.

Neither Jon or Louise on at 4pm - Kate & Tim are standing in.

Is this part of a plan to go to more of a pool of presenters or just annual leave/sickness?

He was bloody awful. At the 4:30 intro to HARDtalk, I think he said "News 24" three times in the same sentence; something along the lines of "Those are the headlines here on News 24, David Jessel will be here with a full news roundup at 5 here... on BBC News 24... but now it's time for -- on News 24 -- it's HARDtalk".

And his newscasting wasn't much better - wooden, straight-laced delivery with not a hint of humanity or interest in what he was doing.

He and Jake Lynch are nothing more than BBC Newsbots.

Clarence should stick to reporting. Jake should......well, is that legal? O.K. You get my drift.
I can't for the love of me understand why : Mark Percy, Eve Conway and Jake Lynch are allowed in front of a camera. The beeb has such a vast pool of quality.....well maybe small puddle but christ why these?

And if you think Clarence is Bad, you've clearly never seen Mark Percy on BBCi News Multiscreen MY GOD hes a law unto himself.

Jake Lynch worked for Tyne Tees Television launching Tyne Tees Southern opt Network North back in 1993, he was a better presenter, he did have a smile on his face back then, but the BBC have turned him into a robot Sad

Eve Conway and Mark Percy are producers, they are not presenters. One producer is assigned to BBCi news each shift. They are responsible for putting together the entire bulletin single handedly, that includes presenting as well.

Lucy Hockings is a producer, too, but she's a great presenter. It's all to do with how much talent and training a person has had, I suppose.

I think Lucy Hockings would be classed as a presenter these days. You'd never see Eve Conway or Mark Percy presenting proper bulletins.

Is Hardtalk filmed in the same studio as the 1, 6 and 10 o'clock news is?
