I said they should NOT JUST use text to accompany the read out story, they should KEEP the text on screen. Just like Sky do.

Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. Director's discretion.

No, I'm sorry. News 24 very very rarely keep breaking news straps on screen when they've moved onto another story. Sky do, and Sky are better for it. If it's the director's decision, he or she constantly makes the wrong call.

EDIT: Bloody hell! I take it back, they must be reading this because they're keeping the 'Foreign Criminals' strap up during the footy story! Keep it up News 24!

Sally Nugent presenting alongside Ben Brown tonight. Formerly part of North West Tonight sport presenting team, and more recently a sports presenter on News 24, before this year moving back to news, to reporting for News 24 out of TVC.

To be fair, over the last few months they have been using the Breaking News aston a lot during unrelated stories, or keep it running through headlines summaries from time to time. Then there's always the ticker, which draws attention to itself when it animates to Breaking News bright red.

Its because Emily Maitlis is presenting during the election coverage overnight.

According to DigiGuide, "Emily Maitlis reports from the biggest battleground of the night London".

And they're doing it now, as I said, and it just shows how well it works. They're flicking through news in brief and each time the Breaking News aston is popping up inbetween, also working with astons during reports. Looks neat and is effective.

And there's a big sport story making the news so Sally can handle that well.

The new schedule is certainly providing plenty of variety - today Joanna Gosling did the '5', and Deborah MacKenzie is doing the '10' news hour. Jo Coburn was on this morning too, with Tim.

All makes for a quite refreshing change, who knows who's going to appear next!

Deborah is probably doing the overnight on BBC World, she will only be required on News 24 until 23.40. For a 70 minute slot it is not worth getting an extra presenter in.

I would imagine tomorrow, most of the main anchors will be presenting, hence having people filling in today. I know Dermot and Sian are presenting Breakfast tomorrow morning. I think Bill might be in as well.

Radio Times says that Dermot, Bill and Sian will be presenting Breakfast tomorrow, but I can't imagine all three sitting on the sofa! My suspicion is that Bill will be out and about somewhere covering the elections.

Just wondering, but what ever happened to Alastair Yates?

Emily was very good last night on the election programme. I thought her whisper on News 24 was her normal voice, but it appears she can wake up when she wants!

I wish she'd be as alert when on her News 24 shift!

The Beeb seem to have been playing second-fiddle overnight, but are making up for it this morning. They're several minutes ahead of Sky with news of the reshuffle. Sky are flashing up "Reports: Minister X sacked", and you suspect their source is the screen in the corner with News 24 on, who reported it 2-3minutes earlier.

EDIT: Sky have just caught right back up, announcing a large number of new jobs which News 24 know nothing about. Swings and roundabouts, I guess!

I just wish they'd stream News 24! Five Live are pathetic as usual with breaking news - they're carrying on with their phone in.
