)I just noticed the nice opening straight to Washington at the TOTH. Nice wideshot of the studio. I was abit confused at first - not watched N24 all day and I thought for a moment they had changed the studio along with N6 http://www.rp-networkservices.com/tvforum/uploads/n24_030506.jpg PS: I thought they'd hung an English national flag on the left hand side of the set for a moment (in preparation for the World Cup
I'm not usually one to comment on individual presenter's performance, but is it me or is Chris Eakin really tired or something today?
He sounded like he wanted to be anywhere else but reviewing the papers, and just didn't seem very enthusiastic. He was excellent when he used to (?) present in the afternoons, too. I think he needs a co-presenter, and some sleep.
I've gotta say, I've given him a chance but I really can't take to this Ben Brown guy. It really is Snooze 24 when him and Emily Maitliss are on together.

I've never seen the attraction of him either.
Remember when they were trying to pick a new anchor for the 6 in 1999, and they picked Huw Edwards, plucking him from the obscurity of News 24 political correspondent, and making him a likeable star.................they must have been thinking along the same lines with Ben Brown.
I find News 24 pretty unwatchable after 6.30 now. Maitlis has the most bizarre manner of speech I think I've heard from a newsreader (sometimes very posh, other times slipping into cockney!) and Ben Brown sends me to sleep. Put him on CBeebies at that time of day and I'm sure many parents would be happy.
I too hate it after 6.30 now. In fact, make that 6.00!
However I think the BBC were right to put their stronger presenters on during the day to capture the office audience - and what a dream team they have, Kate & Simon, Matthew & Jane and then Jon & Louise.
Why they went for Ben & Emily though, I don't know. I'd have put Julian & Rachel on instead, but they went for 'faces' that people would know instead. Bad move.
Just turned over to News 24 at just before 6.30. They mentioned a breaking story in the closing headlines, something about the BBC finding out that a terror suspect not being deported, but there were no breaking news graphics.
As soon as it went over to Ben Brown they had the full breaking news sting and all the graphics.
Did News 24 do the breaking news strap earlier over the 6, or are we basically now seeing News 24 going to sleep during the simulcasts now?
My point isn't that News 24 should have dropped everything and have a presenter talking endlessly to correspondents who didn't know anything yet.
My point is that they should use their graphics to keep viewers up to date with breaking news NOT just to emphasise what presenters have already said, as they do at present.
It's been standard practice for a breaking news story to be accompanied by text information since the late 1980s. Happened on BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Sky and other channels. It's nothing new or unusual. It's just standard practice.

I said they should NOT JUST use text to accompany the read out story, they should KEEP the text on screen. Just like Sky do.
