Yes it was most interesting Phen - very well done. I'm surprised the BBC would let anyone make use of their news brand for dramatic purposes - that's the real surprise for me. Maybe it's been done before.
Interesting all the same though that RTÉ seem to have chosen another PSB rather than Sky... Suppose they were halfway in the door already...

Saying all that, the content itself was very unconvincing. The news script instantly referred to concerns for Ireland, which simply wouldn't be the case. The BBC's first mention of affected populations would be that of the people of Wales and the wider UK. Also the script saying 'some are predicting it as an Irish Chernobyl' rang utterly hollow - who the heck is predicting anything if it's breaking news?!! It only came in that second!
Equally there's no look of surprise or concern with either newsreader - all very stilted.
Still, the graphics, set and astons look great - what really matters Very Happy

Mocked up News 24 bulletins have often been used on those kind of 'what if' docu-dramas. So far I've only seen this on programmes made by the BBC - but then these often feature Sky News and ITV mock-ups as well, so I guess it's not unheard of for another broadcaster to provide such material. I would also assume they'd get paid for doing it - plus it's extra publicity for the brand. Providing it's clear it's a 'preconstruction' I guess there's no problem.

Crisis Command was a good example of this...the productions both BBC news 24 style bulletins and the program was so realistic that it had to be taken off the air! I seem to remember that they also used sky news too.

If anybody here saw The Late Late Show on RTE One this evening, you'll have seen a clip from the new RTE drama 'Fallout' due to be shown on RTE One, Sunday evening at 21.35. From what I gathered this evening, the ficticious drama is about a nuclear fallout in Sellafield, Cumbria and its potential effects on Ireland.

The reason I'm mentioning it here is because the clip they showed was a specially-made BBC News 24 bulletin based on the ficticious event - complete with proper News 24 titles, graphics (although not TOG graphics) and presenters - Stephen Cole and Gwenan Edwards. Most unusual Shocked ! And whats more interesting is that it came from the real News 24 studio!! How did RTE manage to get the BBC to do that for them?!! Does anybody here have any more information about this? Has the BBC ever done anything like this for an outside broadcaster?

Seem to recall an episode of Casualty or Holby had an N24 themed news report once, when they had a train crash or something. No presenters appeared on screen, althought he N24 strap and graphics and a newscasters voice (L Minchin??) was used for this fictitious story.

And, don't forget that Natasha Kaplinsky has been appearing in My Hero for years....

what as? that creepy unfunny baby?

Dr Who also used N24 graphics but no studio, they had some fake reporter too. Spooks used to have what's her face, errr, the one who used to be on with Hayton, in the studio but without graphics IIRC.

Natasha would be the newsreader who was always telling us of 'Thermo Man's' (IIRC) achievements.

Anyone seen News 24 showing Sky News' interview with David Cameron today? They've covered up the Sky News Active graphic with a huge red name strap. Looks weird, especially as they've zoomed the picture in quite a bit for some reason.

The massive fake aston looks quite comical. As for the zooming it's to try and obscure the location graphic, which is still visable in the top corner of the interview.

I can't understand why they'd go to all that trouble. The location graphic is no big deal, and the active graphic could have been covered by the normal info strap. Tsk!
