That's good news.

Very good just then with Huw. During a report on the top story the Breaking News strap came up about the Italian election. Within minutes Huw had the Italian ambassador sitting next to him in the studio and a very good interview followed. How did they get him so quick?

PA Embargoes - if there was a set time to release that story, then behind the scenes the BBC can prepare for it.

Or they'd already reported that day that the result was expected to be announced at about five that afternoon, and they'd made plans for when it happened. Not an embargo....

Embargoes are put on information by the body releasing the news - the Government, companies, often the BBC itself. PA doesn't embargo stories of its own accord - it'll just file a story embargoed to a particular time based on the wishes of the organisation providing the raw information.

PA is a UK domestic news agency. They'd not be the source for an Italian story.

Call me old-fashioned, but why should a rolling news channel have a film review section? Before anyone says it, I am well aware of Sky News doing the same, but I've never usderstood why they do it, it just doesn't fit in. It's not news!

You're so, so wrong.

Mark Kermode is an absolute genius.

The Film Review slot on Simon Mayo's programme is consistently one of the most downloaded and best appreciated podcasts in the world.

He's got the perfect mix of charm, wit and opinion, and is so much less up his own arse than every other film critic going (with the exception of his occasional stand-in James King, who's not bad but just a touch too camp).

Not really News 24 material, but it'll be a great watch....dealing with Huw Edwards or stand-in could never match the interaction with Simon Mayo though

Isn't it lovely having the excellent weekend crew on tonight.

Coming up to 8pm I noticed that the endcap was dodgy. The audio cut out quick, the BBC Copyright box thing came on then faded away but Her Majesty still stayed on. It then cut to the weather but it hadn't reset so John had to put it back to the BBC Weather graphic (he moved to the side of the screen to do so).

Bit of a shambles.

If anybody here saw The Late Late Show on RTE One this evening, you'll have seen a clip from the new RTE drama 'Fallout' due to be shown on RTE One, Sunday evening at 21.35. From what I gathered this evening, the ficticious drama is about a nuclear fallout in Sellafield, Cumbria and its potential effects on Ireland.

The reason I'm mentioning it here is because the clip they showed was a specially-made BBC News 24 bulletin based on the ficticious event - complete with proper News 24 titles, graphics (although not TOG graphics) and presenters - Stephen Cole and Gwenan Edwards. Most unusual Shocked ! And whats more interesting is that it came from the real News 24 studio!! How did RTE manage to get the BBC to do that for them?!! Does anybody here have any more information about this? Has the BBC ever done anything like this for an outside broadcaster?
