Ben and Emily are getting there slowly. I have to say I'm more impressed with Ben's presenting style, he still appears novice-like, but his ad lib abilities are getting better.
Emily has a smooth style but at the moment doesn't put enough emphasis in with intonation when reading off the autocue. She also speaks a bit too quickly, which makes her harder to watch as she is also quieter than most other presenters.
Give them time...

Yes I watched for a bit, it seems weird seeing her at N24, I must say. She seems so quiet, but good luck to her!

I have to say that Ben and Emily are certainly 'beginners' to a rolling news channel. Ben seems to be doing better, he's had a headstart in practice. Emily seems to speak in the same yet timid tone. But I agree with you News24, they will improve in time. After all, all newsreaders have to start somewhere...

It was done in the virtual studio.
No it wasn't - it was done on the usual big board set. There was a linking shot used when it was done live during the day. A bit of a giveaway.
Are you sure that Nick was not just standing in the right part of the set for continuity purposes, it looks awfully virtual to me, fo example the newsroom behind the desk is displayed in the right hand of the picture, the train moves through the floor, effectivly cutting it into two and the floor is all to polished for the normal right hand screen. The fact file has been done in a virtual studio before, with bits comming out of the floor.
Yes, I'm sure. Clever things can be done with cameras and computers. And factfile in a "virtual studio" before - hmmmm, not as far as I know.....

Yes but this has been overlaid using computer graphics. The 'real' background just to the right of the projection screen can be seen just behind Nick. If memory serves me correctly this is the top of the balcony of the news centre?
It's been done many times before, the other graphics are added over the top of the real picture by simply making sure the camera (and Nick) are in the right position so it all matches up.

the new look is rubbish. Huw Edwards can't do rolling news or ad lib, despite his previous N24 experience
and why are these "newbies" presented as the "face" of N24 in the new trailers?? Kate Silverton and Emily Maitlis... I mean, what the hell?? just parachuted in as the "faces" of N24... Silverton has been round for a while (unfortunately), but her and Maitlis are projected as the "face" of the channel by these trailers.
What about the expert journalists?? They unfashionable all of a sudden? OK they have Jon Sopel on the trailers... where's Jane Hill? Where's Big Al? Where's Chris Eakin? Where's Tim Willcox? Where's Maxine? They suddenly unfashionable or not the kind of personality N24 wants to project? They just want pretty people, and it doesn't matter about their ability to deliver. Jane is the dog's b*llocks, but she's not in the trailers...
Ditch these "pretty people". Silverton drove Phil Hayton out, just cos she maybe looks better. But her delivery is far less authoritative. But lets face it. She's rubbish... *yawn*.
Its about time N24 put substance before style. People who watch rolling news aren't watching in order to see a fashion or prettiness show... they are watching to see news delivered to them in an authoritative and knowledgeable fashion...
In that sense, Carrie Gracie, Joanna Gosling, Kate Silverton, Liz Pike and the rest of those "genre" should go to regional news.
My spout for the night.

What a load of tosh. With the exception of your assessment of Huw Edwards - whose segment seems to be rather lost and something of an afterthought - the rest of this is just nonsense.
Considering that Kate Silverton appears in at least two of the trailers on the same phone, and that all of the headlines trailers are done in exactly the same way, but with people different positions, something tells me that they simply used the hands faces that they could get their hands on at the same time, rather than making a conscious decision to decide that "these are the faces of News 24". It's a trailer for headlines being available every 15 minutes - it's not a "we are News 24" promo. If you're going to be really picky, then how about criticising the fact that there are no business or sports presenters in either of the new promos for each of those. Are we to assume from this that News 24 consider all of their news and sports presenters to be utterly foul and unworthy of being promoted, or that they are somehow not fashionable enough to be considered the "faces of sport and business" and News 24... or shall we come back down to earth and stop overanalysing everything to pieces?
I personally think Kate Silverton is excellent, and I very much doubt that you are privy to the exact details of Philip Hayton's departure, and exactly why he chose to depart after Silverton's arrival. However, I think it's quite telling that many people on here found Hayton to be an excruciating bore, and welcomed his departure, whatever the circumstances.
Frankly, I think many would agree that it's about time N24 injected a bit of style into its line up. For a long time, it's had the substance but has been lacking in the style stakes. Your assessment above seems to suggest that they've completely ditched the substance of newscasting in favour of clueless pretty young things, when there is very little to support that assertion.
There's room for both style and substance in newscasting, and I think it's good that the BBC is trying to strike the balance - and indeed that they aimed for the substance first before trying to dress it up a bit.
I'm not convinced by the inclusion of more appointment-to-view programming, nor with the simulcast of the Nationals, but to dismiss the changes on the charge that N24 is seemingly casting aside its substance in favour of turning itself into a beauty pageant is a complete nonsense.

Again, with the exception of Huw I completely disagree. I think it's important to have style on this news channel which regularly pulls in millions of viewers. The new trailers are sexy, stylish and are figures we see regularly on BBC1/BBC2. Anyone who doesn't have digital probably won't have a clue who Maxine or Jane is, sadly.
Plus, Carrie Gracie is fantastic, she shouldn't go to regional news! What are you talking about?!?!

I'd argue that Hayton threw his toys out of the pram. His attitude towards young female journalists seems the sort of Michael Buerk-style prattishness that was revealed not that long ago. I've met Kate Silverton and she is indeed a very nice person.
I'm not going to bother arguing against the rest of your statement as it's complete rubbish.

You're probably right about Maxine because although she's done several Weekends as well as occasional One and Breakfast; I can't agree about Jane: she is a face often seen on BBC One: she's on the Weekends regularly and often does the One or the Six and has done Breakfast several times too. Admittedly, she's not as well known as Sophie Raworth or Fiona Bruce but she is a BBC One 'face' (sorry, I don't acually like that word but I can't think of a better one).
