Yep, it's defo gone. I think it looks far better, the old version had too much red and was too dark. Perhaps someone fell through it and broke it!

They could do with lightening up the summary area now.

Did you know that the summary pod faces directly onto a corridor? The floor manager often stands there to keep traffic flow to a minimum during summaries! It is also said to be off-putting for the presenter, who is trying to focus on the autocue.

BBC News 24 played out an 88 second countdown before the 0400 headlines on Thursday 10th March... has anyone spotted a 90 second one since the current fleet of countdowns started?

Also, BBC ONE used to play a generic countdown until the top of the hour when joining BBC News 24 overnight. They just seem to play masses of trails and then a very brief ident when joining at the top of the hour now. Has anyone seen anything different from this recently?

Can anyone shed any light on this?

The News 24 studio looks nice, its just that red, they have put it all shapes. It would look better just a strip from top to bottom, rather than the stupid L shapes everywhere, just makes it look a complete mess.

The methodology behind it is that a countdown is a waste of airtime. It would be much more beneficial for the BBC to broadcast a shed load of trails promoting their programmes.

As good of you as it was to upload the file and countdown, do you really have to have the entire bulletin from 3.30? I'm sure you could edit out most of it.

I'm not sure if I'm alone in thinking this, but one of News 24's best discoveries over the last year or so has got to be Kate Silverton. As a presenter she's really developed and improved, and I rate her amongst one of the best on the channel. She's also EXTREMELY attractive.

With talent like Kate and Karin Giannone rattling around at the channel, it therefore amazes me that people like Joanna Gosling are still getting a look in - there's just no comparison IMO.

Different people find different people attractive - and looks aren't everything.

I personally find Kate Silverton quite difficult to watch as a serious news presenter, when I've seen her pundit on The Wright Stuff. She always seems a bit out of her depth on any serious news, and not particularly incisive during interviews.

You're right - looks CERTAINLY aren't everything, I mentioned Kate's as an aside. I personally think she's a really good news presenter.

I could identify with some of what you say about her when she first started on the channel a few months back, but since then she really seems to have settled in and has a certain warmth about her, as well as a good deal of gravity.

Compared with Joanna Gosling (or, indeed, Louise Minchin IMO) she's excellent. But of course, this is all a matter of opinion. I never saw the Wright Stuff, so I guess I don't have that preconception.

A countdown keeps people glued to the tv, adverts don't.

It might keep "TV Forum" people glued to the TV, others may see it as a nice handy "90 seconds before anything interesting happens" warning that it is safe to go and make a cuppa, or surf a few other channels knowing that nothing new is going to happen for the next 90 seconds.

Much as I think the BBC over promote a few select shows in their trailling strategy (If I see the BBC Three Casanova trail ONCE MORE I WILL EXPLODE!!!) - I can see the wisdom of using the top of the hour for programme promotion rather than a countdown (though as a piece of production I think the News 24 countdowns ARE great)

If you'd seen her spouting all sorts of personal opinions on controversial subjects as a pundit on The Wright Stuff it might have changed your views. I really find her difficult to take seriously having seen her on both.

Louise Minchin always strikes me as very competent, and also pretty witty. She seems to really know her stuff during interviews, but also not try to make herself "seem clever" (something I hate presenters doing) When I see Kate do interviews, she doesn't really seem to always understand what she is interviewing people about. Sometimes it looks like she is "presenting" - i.e. asking pre-determined questions irrespective of the answers she has been given - rather than acting as a journalist and listening to the interviewee?

I remember her co-presenting News 24 weekend breakfasts with Fergus Walsh, and they were quite a fun team to watch.

For the fans of generic N24 idents (without 24), they have been playing out today for the first time in a while! Titles at 4pm had generic titles.

Also, is it me or have they taken some of the red coloured wall that is usually behind the presenter on the stand up area with the plasma?
