Sheesh.

It looked like there was a third presenter for a minute. Very Happy

Ha ha... actually you might be on to something.. how about have the signing lady sitting in between Matthew and Jane??! I'm sure she could squeeze in and would obviously solve the problem of obscuring Jane/Matthew! Laughing

She could run around the studio in the background following each camera shot, signing as she goes.

Hi everyone - I've just seen the new BBC News bits and bobs - look lovely. I really prefer the studio - I prefer it when they're walking around the studio rather than remaining glued to a chair. (The chairs they used to sit on looked pretty comfy though!)

What a wonderful idea- I have a vision of the signing woman standing behind the presenters in the background, desperately moving around to stay in shot.

As someone has mentioned above- I know it's not politically correct, but could they not employ a slightly less plump signer?

Well, this would have looked much better.

I know - I've never seen a signed programme where the signer isn't just a NORMAL person. Whether it's their clothes, shape, or as stated here, size, something's always a bit off, especially on CBBC signings.

By the way, all these people talking about the signing lady madly running around the studio is giving me some hilarious pictures in my head. I mean people always say LOL but it's not often they actually DO laugh out loud.

Anyway, like you said, she's a big lady, I highly doubt she could run fast enough to keep up with the cameras.

Ooh, imagine the weather forecast - you wouldn't know who to look at would you? Two people both madly waving their arms around the screen, pretending to know alot when they're actually reading it off an autocue!

The signing was fine at breakfast this morning - I think the problem arose on yesterday's One, because the signer was obscuring the graphics (which were part of the N6 studio output), whereas previously the TOG graphics would be overlaid on top of the signer.

Thinking about it, surely the logical solution would be to get a graphicsless feed of N6, feed that over to the signing studio (and do the usual shrinking of the main frame), and then put N6's graphics on top of that (or run N8's TOG as a slave to N6). People in the know: Is that technically possible?
Here's hoping that's what they're aiming for, and today's mess was just a stop-gap.

Now, I'm just guessing here, but... I think it's pretty blindingly obvious that the signer appeared as she did today because of technical problems in the signing studio - most likely its DVE wasn't working. What they did was a lash-up, probably at extremely short notice, and was the best they could do under the circumstances. Of course nobody would design something like that deliberately!

If someone's good at their job, you can't exactly discriminate against them. Live signing for broadcast isn't exactly easy, and signers are in short supply. (Incidentally, they're hiring).
Besides, I've never heard anyone moaning about the waistline of, say, Brian Taylor

Could someone make a easy to digest chunk of what these "changes" are, I've been following the thread but I seem to have missed the key points. What exactly is going on at the Beeb.

I don't know why News 24 don't do what they do during a story which has broken just before 1, and delay the signing bulletin by an hour, starting it at 2 until 3, then we will not have it clashing with the other graphics, or images.

Surely the whole point of signing the 1 on N24 is that viewers have the option of a signed or non-signed version of the simulcast bulletin? I know that doesn't apply to the back half hour, but how would it help to move the signing to 2?
