As an aside note, and I'd love to know this, but what is so special about Ben Brown?

Nothing Really.

According to the BBC however, he is one of there most experienced war correspondents and has also covered major 'domestic events'.

I wasn't doubting his evident journalistic qualities, and like Dunedin has raised, he has probably choose to make this move to broadcasting behind a desk but what I don't understand is his immediate prominance, others who have made the move, like Sopel, simply didn't come in and take the prime time slot, I was just curious why it'd happened with him. Somebody certainly see protential in him!

Re Ben Brown - remeber when Jeremy Bowen first started on Breakfast - he was awfull - but he and Sophie soon became the best tv news partnership - but it took time - presenting and reporting are quite different - I'd give Ben and Emily some time yet ti settle!

Exactly why should the newbies with absoloutly no presenting experience like Ben Brown get the prime spot straight away whilst others like Maxine Mawhinney, Chris Eakin and Jane Hill who have bben with News 24 for almost a decade and made it what it is just get shunted off to lesser slots.

Dosen't seem at all fair to me.

Again, I hate to say it but have you considered presenter input?

Have you considered that perhaps Amroliwala would prefer to work roughly 8am-4pm Monday-Friday, rather than work 4pm-11pm? If you had a family which would you want?

I'm not saying these are the reasons why presenters end up where they are, but I think it's wrong to assume that every BBC News presenter would give an arm to present a so-called "prime-time" slot (7-10pm), which incidentally probably doesn't get as good ratings as earlier in the evening. I belive Huw Edwards has been given the 'plum' slot with the 5pm hour often getting the best ratings of the day for the channel

Talking of ratings- we should have course expect the ratings for News 24 to go down following this mini-relaunch, given the simulcasting measurements by BARB.

Under their current system, I believe that all News 24 viewers at 1, 6 and 10pm (plus of course breakfast) are automatically transferred onto the audience of BBC One at that time.

Someone I'm sure will correct me if I'm mistaken.

Fair enough - but i'm sure Chris Eakin would prefer to do 7-10 than 10-1. I dont know him obviously - but what reason could there be for him to prefer doing an inferior slot and would have to work similar hours.

If I remember correctly, that only applies to cable I think, something to do about using audio to track what is being watched, which is identical on both channels?

Prime Time for news channels is NOT the same as prime time for entertainment channels. Prime Time for N24 and Sky News is 9-5, when people have screens on in the office....

...so Jane Hill has been handed one of THE top slots.

The comparison has been made between Ben Brown and Jeremy Bowen, but the fact is that Ben Brown has been presenting in dribs and drabs on BBC World for over 5 years, and he's still IMO no good, and looks like an amauter sitting next to the wonderful Emily Matliss.

And this board really must stop obsessing with Maxine Mahwinney. A telented newscaster she might be, but she doesn't fit in with the LOOK of a channel that wants to be modern and fresh.

You've got to hand it to the new boss of News 24, cause he's making it the dogs bolllocks. Whereas Sky News now just looks silly, over the top, and it's now apparent that Sky's journalistic credits are rather lacking.
