I throught it was rather good, live covergage of the plane landing (even if they were not sure if it was the actual plane or not!) detailed analysis with presenter and guests at the scene. This was the sort of level of coverage we used to get from sky news, what was their coverage like?

I guess the pictures of a plane landing were inevitable in their pointlessness.

At least they were showing the correct plane, Sky have been showing pictures of a plane landing too but they obviously missed his plane landing and are showing a boeing 757 instead.
Very strange that there's such a long delay (of over an hour now) in bringing us Norman Kember's statement made at Heathrow Airport. Does anyone know why this may be? Peter Sissons keeps saying he doesn't know why there should be such a delay, and he clearly seems frustrated by it.
They've already said there was just one camera in the room for his statement, but was this a syndicated camera or a private deal with someone who's now selling the pictures to the various media outlets?
And I love the irony in running a strap that says "Kember asks for his family to be left alone by media" on top of helicopter shots of his house and close-ups of his grandchild in a bedroom window.
I'm guessing the statement made at the airport has been embargoed to be broadcast exactly at the moment when Kember arrives home. The idea is probably so as to take the focus off him meeting his family members, but the news channels will just show both in split-screen.

It's normally the case that pictures from inside Heathrow are from a private freelance cameraman who has the rights to film inside the building and he then sells them to media organisations. Or it could just be a deal done with Foreign Office (or whoever is looking after Kember) that only one pool camera will be allowed and then it's normally decided amongst the broadcasters who does it - this is then played out to everyone at the same time.
On BBC1 they put up a huge blue banner at around 2.30pm during Grandstand with the words "Breaking News on News 24 - Norman Kember Statement".
Very strange - it was in the Gills Sans font on a big blue strap - but presentation wise it didn't fit into the BBC News, BBC1 or BBC Sport look so don't know where it came from!
I also didn't really think it was worth it - it was a predictable news event and something bulletins would cover adequately later on!
I did see Kember arrive home on Sky and was completly disgusted - in seconds the reporter turned from summing up things on Sky News to being nothing short of a thug really, aggressively shouting out questions like "What's it like to be home?"

Sounds like the normal one they use on BBC One and Two when there is a big news event over on News 24. It's been like that for a while - I assume they just haven't bothered to make it fit into the BBC News look, but I suppose it doesn't need to.
