i wish they would change the bbc news theme tune as its been the same one since the 1999 rebrand.in 2003 they changed the titles and not the tune.
on the 10th april will they change the news theme and titles or not or are they just changing the tower and ticker
The theme tune was altered ever so slightly in February 2004. But yes, the theme tune has more or less been the same for 7 years now - that's longer than the mad orchestral theme tune in the 90s which lasted for 6. When the drum and beep theme tune debuted in May 1999, I found it was a huge breath of fresh air after the orchestra music.
Well I really don't know why they call it News 24, seeing as it's more News 19, and even smaller after 10 April. But maybe a little website like bbc.co.uk/news/onscreen would be appropriate.
Re the tower, do you mean having something on screen that looks a bit like Breakfast's stack during the news summaries?
Well it does show news programming 24 hours a day, whether it's available on other channels isn't really relevant is it?
I think the simulcast of the 1 and 6 has come about 18 months too early, but it was an inevitable move....all roads lead to a totally settled, entirely digital UK (probably 2013 at my best guess), when it will make no sense to anyone why there is news on BBC One- this channel will be the on-demand, broadband accessed mainstream entertainment channel from the BBC. News will only be on News 24- again on demand probably with most people watching online.
That's my bit of futurology for you- the point I'm making is that the 1,6,10 and Breakfast have no long term future on the old-fashioned "terrestrial TV". April 10th marks the next phase in this process.
Re: my tower idea- yes similar to the Breakfast stack (slightly taller) but with the masthead and ticker still running underneath.
Pear- I'd be very surprised if titles, music etc. change on April 10th, and I can only assume the new ticker is going to stay (I think it's a vast improvement on the last one anyway). Main change will be programming (simulcasts, Huw at 5pm and new presenter slots).
My tower idea is just an idea, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it change somehow on April 10th along with the national bulletin graphics (since they'll all be simulcast now anyway.
With all the talk of BBC News 24 changes on April 10th, is this the same day that BBC One News unveils its new studio etc..
There is no new nationals studio! As has been said many times in this and other threads, where are you getting this strange idea that it is!?
I was under the impression that we had been given reliable information that there is one in the pipeline, from which the national news and Breakfast will both be presented, but that won't be ready until summer at the earliest...? Or was I dreaming it?
Gavin Esler presenting Dateline London without a tie.
Is that a first?
No one wears ties anymore!! Well not over here in NZ, only newsreaders and biz news readers tend to where ties and if they don't normally wear them they will for a special occasion. But back on topic I have seen Gavin host something without a tie, and I thought he left Dateline London.

are they giving the set a complete new look or are they just making tiny changes :
