That looks much better - but not much different to what it was before the start of all this silly tinkering. Kate looks lovely there -best looking newsreader in the UK - but in the world it's got to be Melissa Theuriau. Google her and you'll see what i mean!

I just googled her and I completely understand where you are coming from - she's gorgeous!

Bloody hell, yes she is isn't she. I bet Phil Hayton wouldn't have minded working with this...

But if they're dropping the '24', why all this tinkering with the Tower over the last few days?

EDIT: Unless, of course, when they changed the ticker, they had introduced new software ready for the name change, and so the News 24 Tower needed to be recreated temporarily until the change, and they just took a few goes getting it right?

EDIT 2: Thinking about this now! If they drop the 24 - what do the put in the titles? Answer: changes ever hour, 9am - a big 9, 10am - a big 10, 11am - a big 11 etc, and thus fits perfectly with the 1/6/10 titles. This would also fit in with there being a 5 O'clock News - with a big 5!

I'm not sure I'm bought on the idea but I will throw this in the pot, would it explain why the generic titles are still being used? Actually come to think of it, BBC News with different titles every hours does sound good.

Generic titles aren't still being used though.

I doubt they are going to change the whole channel's name any time soon. I think what w12 was getting at was that the channel DOG might change to saying just "BBC News", rather than the whole "BBC News 24" name. This would make sense - who says the DOG has to state the full channel name? The output itself is BBC News, and the titles saying BBC News 24 is enough. It would also allow the DOG to be smaller.

News 24 is such an established brand now (see - it doesn't even need the "BBC" prefix), it would be silly to throw that away and go for the less distinctive "BBC News Channel" (which is what it would have to be called to make it clear to viewers), in my opinion.

Moz - perhaps the graphics will be tweaked (with the tower changes speculated) when the new national studios come in, and these changes are just a pre-cursor? It would make sense.

I wouldn't mind BBC News but BBC on it's own would look quite pathetic (personally Wink ).

I'm more interested in the idea of titles changing every hour to be updated. Sounds quite good if you ask me..

I still think the name BBC News 24 has a ring to it... although a decent refresh of the lower-thirds would improve the channel.

This conversation has gotten a bit out of hand. It started off with someone asking if it would be a good idea to revise the tower to include 24. The channel is not going to change its name to BBC News or 24, these are just people's ideas. The purpose of the BBC NEWS 24 in the tower is because it is the channel's identity. BBC News is too wider title for the channel, there will be nothing to distinguish the channel between BBC World Simulcast and BBC News on BBC 1. BBC News 24 does exactly what it says, a channel which is on 24 hours a day which tells viewers the news. Any rebranding to the channels name, would prove confusing for the viewer, especially as News 24 is performing so well at present. So BBC NEWS 24 is here to stay.

No, W12 - who I believe may have some inside knowledge - said that whoever suggested just 'BBC News' may have been on to something. That's when people stared guessing. So it is actually based on something.

What seems most likely is that it'll stay called BBC News 24, with this in titles and stings, but the Tower will just have a 'BBC NEWS' on it.

We'll have to wait and see.

I believe he's enjoying retirement at the moment, James. I can't blame him really - he's had a long and successful career and I think he deserves a rest now.
