I must say I don't think the graphics "tweaks" were worth it. The "BBC News 24" on the tower looks too high now, the "sides" of the ticker box are still blue not black, I like the white/black ticker but the whole thing seems a step backwards really.

The thinner version of Swiss? on the astons looks worse, ok you might be able to fit more in, but it looks weaker and less newsey imo.

Why is the BBC logo now so big?

It doesn't fit when you consider that the norm across channels, is a small BBC logo with a larger font for the channel name/number itself.

Ticker is now clearer so well done on that.

As for the white text on the black background, the font would probably be clearer and look better if boldened - rather thin at the moment.

While it certainly is an important story, as it involves one of the worst beings on the earth ever to take the easy route out and avoid a trial, I can't think that double-heading would carry on all day, as relief will probably be the only feeling that many people will be feeling today.

Just a point of clarification: I understand that all of the current indications are that he didn't commit suicide.

The ticker has been utterly useless during this story. It's been endlessly scrolling nothing but

THE FORMER PRESIDENT OF YUGOSLAVIA, SLOBODAN MILOSEVIC, HAS DIED

over and over again. The large headline shows "MILOSEVIC DIES", and the information line on the main super has been more or less stuck on "Milosevic found dead in his cell", so what exactly is the point of having the ticker endlessly cycling the same information that's permanently elsewhere on screen?

Incidentally, the full-width splitscreen, being used to show The Hague on the left and library footage on the right, has an animated background - something I've not seen used on splitscreens for quite some time.

What time did the Milosevic story break? I only ask because there doesn't seem to have been an email breaking news alert about it.

On the subject of the graphics.. black and white ticker (with slight bevel at top and bottom, you may have noticed) is excellent - but I think rather than tweaking with the fonts they should come up with some smoother, slicker transitions - instead of the constant left and right wipes - maybe a crossfade or the type of wipe (apologies for the poor explanation) that you see on the displays at some railway station concourses - ie. the text is divided vertically into slim rectangles which fade 2 or 3 at a time. Make sense?

I can't see any vaild reason for the "BBC News 24" to be squashed at the top of the tower? Surely that is the sort of thing that would have been spotted during the testing?

The news broke on N24 at approx 1101 - at which point the other headlines which had just been read out went out of the window.

Regarding the ticker, I can't personally see any kind of bevel effect on it, having seen the revised graphics on a 24" CRT, and 20" and 32" LCDs. Perhaps it's only noticeable on larger screens, though if that were the case, it would make the inclusion of such an effect rather illogical, given that most people don't have such large screens.

Anyone know when Tim Willcox joined Carrie? And when Jo Coburn replaced Carrie?
PS I never seem to see Peter Sissons anymore, he hasnt left has he?

Something thats annoying me at the mo - why is this still Breaking News? Surely something that was confirmed nearly 5 hours ago cant be classed as breaking news?

I believe Tim joined Carrie at 1200, and that Jo took over from Carrie at 1300. And at 1600, Jo flew away, and was replaced by Joanna Gosling.

They did use the normal BBC NEWS tower during Breakfast, but then put the hideous new BBC NEWS 24 tower on again, please put the old TOG back!
