Another day, another set of BBC News Special titles. Last week, we were treated to this:

For this evening's "The Frost Interviews", another set of Special titles were paraded, this time identical to The World Today's sequence ending with the same text effect - something like this:

I've personally not seen those Special titles used before, but I'm sure others will correct me if they have previously been used.

This evening's programme closed without credits, but instead used a generic sting with the National sting music, ending with:

The latest BBC News Special Titles look quite nice, i think it's better then the first version you have posted there BBC LDN, based on the caps it looks like they have been pre-rendered rather then TOG is that right?

Yes indeedy. As I mentioned, they're identical to The World Today's titles, with the only exception being that in place of "THE WORLD TODAY" appearing, it was instead the text that you see above.

What kind of chair was Jane sitting on tonight. I know it's pathetic, but it did look very strange.

My apologies, I could have sworn that I was posting in the BBC News thread
Since you asked in here...
I wasn't quite paying enough attention to the seating arrangements, but Head 2 Head came from N6 this evening between the two bulletins, so there would have been three chairs behind the desk for a bit - perhaps that would explain things?

The second News Special in 12 hours is the Oscars round-up hosted by Paddy O'Connell and, coming from the BBC World second set. I believe it came from the same set last year as well, though without the half-moon desk.

Special supers featuring as well, with an interesting fade'n'wipe effect from right to left, and back again to disappear off screen. Also features an animating side-block, in a similar style to the feature/coming up/headlines graphics on Breakfast, though in this case featuring a rotating Oscar.

The top headline bar features a slightly weak-looking "Oscars 2006" logo towards the left.

Also, for two-ways, a full-height faded-in Oscars/stars graphic featured on the left side of the screen. All in all, an excellent effort for just one half-hour show. It's nice to see that the BBC can still pull it off when they make an effort - but it makes the taste all the more bitter when you see dog's breakfasts like the Ten O'Clock News Hour on screen.

I've managed to grab some very hasty pics with my mobile - if no-one else can offer better caps, I'll see if I can upload mine later, should anyone be interested.

Weird. I found the first one looks better, the one with the '24' lettering and BBC News Special at the bottom.

I see they've changed the 'Coming Up' bit to the headlines. instead of zooming out to a smaller box on the screen, the coming up strap appeared. They then realised that it didnt look good without the tower, so put it on screen. Then they forgot to take it off, so the RTS News Channel Of The Year bit was covered up by the tower at the end of the opening sequence.

Cock up or what?

"Cock-up?" - its News 24! That's their speciality in graphics and that blooming tower!

Thanks for the reply BBC LDN, they do look quite good and very effective IMHO

New sound man on N24 this afternoon? For the last hour I've noticed about 4 'sounds' from the studio while they were supposedly off air. Tim laughing, Louise coughing, and the odd 'OK'.

EDIT: Just had a 'yep, lovely - thanks!' off Dan Corbett after the weather had finished!

Any chance he or she's been on since last night? Lots of "OK" and "Thanks" and even the odd cough... Lacking...

Of course it doesn't beat the time Louise managed to tell everyone how she was stuck at traffic light for 1/2 an hour and just how annoyed she was
