You go on and on about that like it's the crux of BBC World's problems. Given the fact that World's budget won't even extend to staffing its broadcasting team sufficiently - which most people would probably expect to be somewhere towards the top of the list of priorities - I seriously doubt that a minor graphical error (that nobody outside of this forum's membership would notice) would be a high budget priority for the channel.

Seriously, even when it's finally corrected, it will make precisely no difference to anyone who watches who doesn't have a TV Forum username. I appreciate that the whole point of TVF is to discuss presentation features and anomalies, but the way you go on about that very minor discrepancy, you'd think that BBC World's problems would be all over if they just spent a few quid on fixing that little oversight.

By all means, let's discuss presentation on all channels until the cows come home, get milked, have babies, sing to their grandchildren and then die - but I think it's also important to get some sense of perspective into these discussions at times.

Yesterday, at 1600, I saw a new addition to the News 24 set (at least, I hadn't seen it before): a large "screen" in the TOTH/Sports news area (although the Sport was being presented from the summary pod area yesterday).

It was on an angle, and I think it was graphically reproduced (I'm sure there's a proper technical term for that) rather than real (judging by the way Tim wasn't really looking at it when asking questions).

I was just wondering how long it has been being used for? It doesn't really suit, IMO. Don't see why they can't just use the real screen they have there already - it works just as well, and looks better!

I agree with you there, If your talking about the titles displaying BBC World / BBC News, I think your (harshy) going a bit over board and saying how its a major problem, when really its not, I think it look beter than BBC News / BBC World. As someone else has said before, BBC News 24 display it 24 / BBC News, no one complains about that do they?

Hello BBC LDN, bbcworld2005, you guys should note the last six words of that quote, now I don't understand where you guys have interpreted that it should be a major priority to correct that mistake, I just said it would be great if they could sort it out, I didn't say it is top priority and it would change the channel's fortunes though, but from a presentation point of view, it would at least bring back some consistancy between the TOG rendered titles and the pre-rendered one.

No one complains, because it is consistant!

Anyway I am not saying else on the matter now, if and when they change it, then i'll be happy Wink

The fact that you go on and on about it all the time - probably more than about anything else on the channel - suggests that you either feel it is a particularly important flaw, or else you have simply developed an unhealthy obsession with it.

Yes, it would be nice for there to be some consistency, but as I've said, the way you endlessly harp on about such a minor discrepancy, an outsider would think that World's success hinges on its rectification. Yes, this is a presentation forum, and yes this is the place to discuss such things, but again as I previously stated, it is perhaps time for some members to get a sense of perspective about what these tiny quirks in presentation actually mean in the scheme of things.

Well, so is BBC World's system for the most part! When they're independant bulletins, it's BBC News from BBC World. All other times, as they go out on both channels, they are The World Today from BBC News or just BBC News. See the logic?

I agree with you in that all titles should have BBC News at the bottom, but like harshy said, for the sake of consistency, it should be changed back to the way it was. The fundamental problem is that when they re-launched in 2003, they should have at that point changed all graphics to "BBC World from BBC News" but they didn't. Therefore it looked daft when they changed the titles when everything else on the channel is the other way round!

I see what you are saying, well I have made my opinions clear, but for the sake of not boring yourself and other forum members, I will tone down on this issue, anyway I'm sure they will get around to it some day is excellent news in itself Smile

I just saw a trailer for the Oscars BBC News Special. The usual fair, with Paddy O'Connell in a tux; nothing much to speak of there. What was more surprising was that for the channel identifier box, rather than the usual bright red box on the right (as seen on the Talking Movies trailers) or the Tower graphic (as used on the Ten O'Clock News Hour trailers), this trailer instead used one of the "fake" Tower graphics used in the BBC's disaster documentary series (such as The Day Britain Stopped and Supervolcano).

The logo box in this case featured an oversized BBC logo in the upper section, and "NEWS 24" in the lower half matching the width of the BBC logo, with a static globe behind it. Looked bloody awful.

Surely they could have used the normal logo. I know a lot of companies have their logos in a folder for any staff member to access. Not in this case I suppose...

I was wondering about that this morning. I assumed it was the start of 'the change' thats coming up in the next few weeks. I agree though, not good.
