I would imagine the overnight World simulcast will come from N9 tonight to give them more time to make sure the News 24 set is ready for the morning.

Sorry for asking a question which probably has a ridiculously obvious answer . . . but I'll ask it anyway!

Why does the World simulcast come from N8 and not N9? With only minimal numbers watching N24 overnight, and now that World is now available in the USA (where the 'overnight' shift is shown from 8pm to midnight E.T), surely it would make more sense to simulcast from N9?

I'd like to know that too. N9 looks much better... for some reason, the picture quality is much better than in N8 (which often looks washed out)... much richer colours... the sound is also slightly different (can hear air conditioning more too!!)

Another question is why do they use the N24 TOTH headline bed and not the BBC World headline bed during the simulcast? They use the BBC World stings, but not the headline bed...

News 24 is streamed live on the BBC News website during major breaking news stories. Not sure if you can find a feed anywhere else though.

One of the Main reasons the News 24 studio is used overnight is the fact it goes out on BBC One. From what i remember they dont like News 24 not being in the News 24 studio i think. Also i dont think its as easy as some of you think to shift News 24 over to the World studio for the night.

The News 24 studio ( N8 ) produces a full channel 24 hours a day. The World studio (N9) just produces bulletins for World - everything else is played out and co-ordinated from elsewhere.

If they were to use N9 overnight they'd either have to staff N8 to put out all the channel elements or shift transmission of News 24 back and forward every day. It's far easier just to get the BBC World transmission suite to change the source for its bulletins

Well, N9 is where they are tonight.
Curiously, they went straight from headlines to the first story, with no opening titles.

Thanks for the answers Davidjb and Inspector Sands. I much prefer N8 to N9 anyway!

Please, please what have I done to have my bete-noir Ms Caesar on every weekday evening?

Any chances that she'll be shifted, soon, please (in a whimpering voice)

Sad

The HARDtalk special repeat currently on N24 is carrying a bug in the style of the LIVE/location graphic, but carrying the legend:

RECORDED
FEB 2003

This is the first time I've seen the 'RECORDED' bug in this style; previously it's either been on a grey box, or appended below an old-style DOG, as used during the ABC World News Tonight broadcasts.

World seem to change the 'LIVE' text now and again. I've seen 'EARLIER' and 'LATEST' on occasions. Perhaps as World also take HardTalk, this was their doing.
