why have News 24 had Russell Hayes outside a petrol forecourt all day today reporting on Shell's record profits?
I know OBs of the like are very common nowadays, but this just seems pointless.
I was thinking the same thing. Pointless OBs seem to be very much in fashion in news presentation these days. I also always fail to see the point of political reporters being stood outside the Houses of Parliament late at night when no-one's there.
What gets on my wick is sizing of reporters on screens in the studio - and this is on all news channels, but worse on those that have bigger screens.
To me, the reporter on the screen should appear to be the same size as the presenter in the studio. What usually happens is the presenter talking to some huge talking head on the screen.
It was illustrated hilariously on Broken News when, during Standing News, the presenter on a very ITV-esque set stands at the newswall speaking to a reporter so large their head and most of their upper body has disappeared off the top of the news wall.
Why is Hardtalk being shown in the 1930-2000hrs slot this evening? Is this common? I've never seen this on a Friday night before.
Really strange that one, I hope it's not a usual fixture for Fridays.
They said at the start that it was a special edition of Hardtalk, presumably because the subject matter relates directly to one of the main stories of the day. It was a very good debate, actually.
Somebody needs to either releive Carrie Gracie, or have a word with her pretty quickly - she's getting incredibly involved in this Egyptian Ferry story, and obviously upset. She's been close to shouting at a studio guest right now saying "Why on Earth were the local media talking about these cartoons while greiving families were waiting for news?", and just commenting on the footage with things like "Why on Earth can't someone get some information to those poor people?", and earlier we had "If you can stomach any more of this terrible story, you can get it on interactive".
If she doesn't get control of herself, there's going to be a lot of complaints about this - it's not really professional, and it's certainly not BBC.
