Correct me if i am wrong but is there not some money saving idea to axe the 11.00 - 01.00 shift, as it only requires the presenter for two hours. There was a rumour that the weekday schedual would be similar to the weekend with the evening shift running from 19.00 - 00.00 and the overnight shift running from 00.00 - 05.00. Could we not see this shift pattern start on Monday, especially as the 00.00 hour has been cut in half due to the movement of World Business report.

I've been seeing an awful lot of diagonal red and white lines in full screen feature graphics on N24 lately, in a similar style to the recent redesign of BBC LONDON. Is it a coincidence, perhaps that the graphic designers are merely taking a bit of inspiration from the new LONDON look, or are we seeing the beginnings of a new design direction for BBC News as a whole?

These graphics are all inherited from Breakfast - most likely they are the style of one particular designer. Breakfast tend to get away with a lot more with regards to re-inventing the housestyle since they don't have the same level of supervision (in terms of Senior Designer on the day) as the other outputs.

Nice virtual elements in the second presentation area on the N24 set today for the Oscar nominations BBC News Special this afternoon. Lots of wide shots in the style of the virtual Fact Files, and two giant Oscars at either side. The physical set-up was the same as for Saturday Sportsday.

Special title sequence as well, though as with all News Specials since the current look began (Iraq elections, Global Warning etc), the standard N24 opening titles music was used.

I though it looked a mess, with that ridiculous Breaking News Aston cluttering up the picture. Not really needed when the names came up on the screens behind the presenters.

Well yes, the use of the breaking news supers was unnecessary, but I thought the rest of the presentation was pretty decent, and it was nice to see them making at least some effort - and a good deal more than they made on the supposed 'jewel in the crown' Ten O'Clock News Hour.

I'm not sure how long this has been going on, but I just noticed that the Breaking News animation, with sound, was played in the middle of an unrelated package a few minutes ago. I'm used to seeing the breaking news supers animating on in the middle of packages, but not since the very early days of the new look have I seen the full animation playing out with sound during a package. As far as I'm aware, the animation with sound has been reserved solely for when the camera is focused on the presenters in the studio.

It's a welcome return to form.

Is that the BNP story? It crashed in with the headline update and tbh worked quite well, especially liking the use so instantly of the Breaking Ticker. Yes, good return to form and imo the breaking animation should be used for every breaking story, certainly "provides on screen prominance"

And again, just now for the strike news, although the typo is quite funny...

...and used again, as you say, for the BBC Radio strike story. A few issues with the text on the breaking news super when it came up:

"Hundreds of staffto strike"

"Hundreds of staff#to strike"

"Hundreds of staf to strike"

<pause>

"Hundreds of BBC radio staff to strike"

I think someone in the N24 gallery is typing with boxing gloves on today.

why have News 24 had Russell Hayes outside a petrol forecourt all day today reporting on Shell's record profits?

I know OBs of the like are very common nowadays, but this just seems pointless.

Jon Sopel just delighted/offended/disturbed viewers by saying "Gobblers Knob", with much sniggering from Louise. *snigger*

Agreed, they should do this all the time.
