They've started doing business summaries in the evening. Today, Karin did business during the day, and Julia Caesar is doing business news every hour this evening. Tim (yes, he's on again) has said it's a new feature for evenings, so looks to be a permenant fixture. Adds a bit of value to evening news on the channel, but it will double the business presenter costs over the week, not exactly in line with the slimmer BBC policies at the moment, especially after Business Today was axed last year in favour of repeating World Business Report.

I imagine keeping Julia and her producer for a few extra hours in the evening is a lot cheaper than putting out a live programme anchored from London and New York. So, I think they probably are saving in the long term.

News 24 reporting that Sven Goran Eriksson will leave his post as England manager after the World Cup.

Will this now roll on uninterrupted?

Here's the probable explanation to the lighting problems earlier . . . from BBC News Online (7.29pm).

Quote:
Hundreds of BBC staff have had to evacuate corporation buildings in west London after a major power cut.
The BBC's White City and Woodlands buildings were both evacuated after the power went out for two-and-a-half hours from 1330 GMT.

About 800 residents in the Scrubs Lane area of White City were also affected by the outage, caused by a fault on a high voltage underground cable.

A BBC spokesman said the incident had not affected TV or radio output.

Contingency plans to move essential operations to the nearby Television Centre building were put into place, the spokesman added.

A spokeswoman for EDF Energy apologised for inconvenience caused by Monday's power cuts.

"Power supplies to approximately 800 customers in the Scrubs Lane area were interrupted just after 1330 GMT today after a fault on a high voltage underground cable," she said.

"All supplies were restored by 1550 GMT."

I wonder if someone cut the power while trying to fix the Broadcast Centre's water mains, which had been broken for half a week...

How on earth was their a full report on the Ten about it by Andy Swiss? Were the media told a few hours earlier?

I can't believe the BBC continues to be blighted by power problems.

What on earth do you suggest they do? Power cuts happen, there is no failsafe way of preventing them. The BBC has backup generators to keep programmes on the air until they can move to Westminster, but if you go and have a look at TV Centre there is no way that can be powered by anything other than mains electricity.

A wind farm in the Blue Peter garden? A nuclear power station in studio 1?

Julia Caesar and I don't get on - I shall find something else to watch at 2045 for a quarter of an hour.

What? She's on for 15 minutes? I have problems with her too! Far too loud.

I believe the echo of her voice has been heard on other channels for many hours after she's broadcast
