I've heard there are plans afoot at White City to simulcast the Ten O'clock News on News 24 - but I wasn't aware they were planning to do it so soon. I'd heard it was more of a vague idea somewhere down the line.

the other - bigger one - may happen later this month Wink

Is it anything to do with the ticker?

No 0930 in the morning - no World news.

That's a bit disappointing, I used to like that bit too. Sad

The reason I mentioned the ticker was that I noticed that the section under the tower no longer revolves to display a single word headline story - a nice idea, but it never seemed to work on-screen.

Si!

Ah yes, I noticed that yesterday, but I thought it was because World were in the middle of breaking news not relevant to UK viewers, or something like that.

Bit of a backwards step really, especially since Sky now have World News Tonight and extra World News bulletins.

I've found that the World News in the morning has always slowed the pace of the channel at that point, and can be a rather dry and dull interruption at times.

For us anoraks in the UK though it's a shame we won't get to see the World set so often now.

Just need to get up very early in the morning to see it now.

Oh yeah, forgot about that. Not keen on the getting up early bit though.

You could always set the video/DVD recorder/PC or you could watch the 22.30 edition of World Business Report that comes from the World set now.

News 24 to call on BBC1 newsreaders

Head of News 24 Kevin Bakhurst is to draft in BBC1 newsreaders to boost the channel's profile.

Newscasters such as Huw Edwards and Natasha Kaplinsky could be called on by the channel, as Bakhurst continues a drive to put News 24 at the heart of the corporation's news operation.

"A lot of these presenters are very well paid, and they earn it, but we could probably get a little bit more out of them," he said.

Bakhurst - who took over News 24 last week as part of a reshuffle by head of TV News Peter Horrocks - is also considering simulcasting the 10pm bulletin on News 24.

"The 10 O'Clock News fits with a rolling news service because it's more analytical," said one BBC TV News insider. "At 10pm people are quite happy to sit down to some analysis."

Simulcasting the 10 isn't really putting N24 "at the heart of it's operations" then, is it?

looks very similar to what ITV did with their news channel for years doesn't it? Bringing over ITV1 presenters, simulcasting etc.

I was thinking that; in fact on the ITV News Channel's last prog, they said that the BBC were following their example by using BBC One presenters on News 24 and I remembered thinking 'they don't, except for news specials simulcast on BBC ONE, like Sophie Raworth and Huw Edwards on during the coverage of the London Bombings': perhaps this has been an open secret within the industry for some time? Perhaps that's why Darren did the simulcast BBC One bulletins from there on New Year's Eve: a sign of things to come?

If they were to use the N24 studio for the simulcast, rather than the ghastly N6, then i think i would not mind!
