Is Kevin Bakhurst - as controller of News 24 - in charge of Breakfast?

If not he shares the unique position of being in charge of a 24 hour news channel for just 21 hours a day!

Not saying he works for 21 hours a day - but he has responsibility for 21 hours a day of television - cf Nick Pollard who's responsible for 24 hours.

Kevin is responsible for the channel 24 hours a day. If he is happy to simulcast Breakfast for three of these hours that is a decision for him.

Why is News24/(presumably) World coming from the Washington studio? I know Israel and America have a lot in common but the presenter is actually further away from Israel (and distance does mean everything !)
To be fair, they were making pretty good use of it, with guests in Washington and London, and proper face-to-face interviews rather than talking heads down the line. To me it looked rather better than what Sky were doing at the time: a split-screen with one guest in the studio and looped pictures of a hospital and Sharon.

No sign of Jon Sopel alongside Louise, he may be on his way out to cover developments in Israel. Unusual to see her on her own for the full shift.

I would anticipate Jon Sopel moving out to the region, as he so often does, and perhaps we will see him from Breakfast tomorrow morning unless Sharon's condition suddenly deteriorates.

I would have also thought someone else would have covered for Jon as it is unusual at this time of day for a presenter to go on their own.

Unless he starts at 5 in Jerusalem.

So Gowing's now flown out today to the region.

Hectic afternoon for Breaking News. They just had an interesting bit of pres - whilst Louise was doing a 2-way with Alistair Leithhead about more killings in Baghdad, they had a small screen to the right of frame, just above the aston, with a live feed from Lib Dem HQ. They used the usual globe & ribbons backdrop for this.

They also played out the wrong Nik Gowing simulcast, playing out the wrong clip, with Gowing talking off camera and reading his lines from his script, before re-playing the correct clip. Interesting to see what looked like Big Ted straps from World pres still visible under the N24 aston.

The ticker has been held on Breaking News red most of the afternoon.

They should be paying Louise double time today, she's under all sorts of pressure

True but she is one of the best presenters on N24, as well as being one of the most senior female presenters, and easily capable of presenting breaking news on her own.
