what is wrong with the graphics on News 24 today? There seem to be about 5 lines at the bottom missing. The ticker is too low on screen, the padding at the bottom of the clock and name astons is missing and when they used big ted for their silly breakfast "contact us" graphics (why do they use a different system for that?) it peeked several lines over the top of the clock.

I noticed that during the overnight bulletins with World that there were a few problems with the astons appearing randomly and then changing the text from CAPS for name to standard lower case, looked much better actually on the astons. That, and Tim Muffet desperatly trying to act like a *proper* newsreader. Bless.

I feel this is a bit unfair, he's just doing what he's been asked to do. His style of presentation is traditionally 15 seconds or whatever it's called, and he's also predominantly a reporter. Why not put La Kaplinski on overnights?

A question asked by many. No, I thought it was a good performance by the chappie and by about 2ish he was doing quite well. I was justed surprised to see Tim, as of Liquid fame ding some *serious* presenting. Good luck to him.

I noticed Paddy O'Connell doing a Hardtalk last week too.

Continuity error with the 2130 trailer - for Balderdash and Piffle - due to start at 2100 on BBC Two

Exclamation

Incidentally are these trailers inserted by the BBC Broadcast / Red Bee Media outfit or by the News24 Gallery, I suspect the Gallery.

I've said it once and I'll say it again, Peter Sissons should undoubtedly move back to the National News. He has done the BBC News bulletins today and he is far better. He seems puzzled and confused when he presents on N24!

Indeed, I've been saying the same thing for a couple of years. He's always been far better on standalone bulletins than rolling news. He really isn't very good on N24 but he is excellent on BBC1. Different styles suit different people and Peter Sissons obviously prefers fixed bulletins. I really don't understand why he was moved to N24, as it has clearly been a mistake. Why can't them permanently move him back to BBC1?

Newer, younger, more attractive talent. Stick him on BBC Radio 4.

BTW couch_potato, please try and use the profile sig function, not just write in your own.

Newer, younger, more attractive talent does not always mean better.

Exactly. Some people are suited to rolling news but not bulletins and vice versa. Its very different presenting a bulletin to presenting rolling news.

Very different?
Well, I agree that presenting rolling news requires different skills, but a real talent can manage to do both well. Think of Jane Hill for example.

Ah, but Jane Hill has flourished as a presenter in the rolling news era. Don't forget, Peter Sissons has been around for decades longer than BBC News 24. I imagine that the transition from rolling news to bulletins would be fairly easy, but going from decades presenting bulletins to being thrown onto a rolling news channel is quite a different kettle of fish.

There's a similar thing going on in the teaching profession. Interactive Whiteboards (or SmartBoards) are increasingly popular in schools nowadays. Teachers who have spent decades teaching using blackboards will most likely find the transition to Interactive Whiteboards (i.e. PC based) very difficult. Teachers who are training during the Interactive Whiteboard era will find it much easier to use them effectively in teaching.

Indeed. Bulletins are pre planned before they go to air, so the presenter will have some idea of whats going to happen on the program. Rolling news changes all the while whilst you are presenting. So there is no running order to follow as such.

What's up with the ticker? It starts with nothing in the blue box, for the first headline, then spins to HEADLINES and continues. Should it be red & BREAKING for the first bit?

Been doing it for over half an hour.

Yes, I noticed that too. It isn't really Breaking news, just looks like a bug, will probably fix itself after the BOTH summary when it's animated back up again

Can you hint at some of these changes? Will they be noticeable?
